Requirements for an online payment system?
What do I need to do in order to charge orders from a shopping cart to a credit card?
Thanks, Felix.

No hosting package comes with that by default. This is a very complex package. You can create a very simple shopping cart using 2checkout and use them to collect Credit Card payments.
On the other hand if you want to process them yourself, you need to setup a merchant account with your bank, this can be very expensive. You can basically order any hosting package that fits your needs, and then build your cart after the fact. Fantastico that comes with every package does offer the following shopping carts to get you started; CubeCart OS Commerce Zen Cart Also before accepting payments you need to secure your site using a SSL cert which is also extra.

If you are simply looking at charging hosting to customers using a reseller account, you can setup something like clientexec which is easy to setup and use. Using this you can charge payments using 2checkout or even Paypal.

Thanks for replying.
I'm not sure if I'll use OSCommerce but I need to set up an online book store. The hosting is not problem since that would be a client on my reseller account. 2checkout looks like a nice option, I guess I'll need that, a SSL cert and a dedicated IP address. That totals around 100 dollars and a recurring monthly fee of three dollars. Would taking paypal payments would be cheaper? The only difference I can think of is the relative hassle for users not already registered with PP. Thanks again, Felix.

Paypal actually has an option where users buying from your site do not need a Paypal account.
Also, 2checkout has an easy to use plug in HTML code to put on your site, which then directs users to their secure site for payment. Using this method you do not need to use any software package, and only have to pay the $49 setup fee to 2checkout. Also it would eliminate the need for a static IP address and the SSL cert. See the following: https://support.2co.com/deskpro/faq....e&articleid=78 This works well if you only have a few products to sell.

). However, you need a premium or business paypal account to accept credit card payments (aka the buyer doesnt have to, but for you to accept the payment sent with credit card, you must). The interest rate of those upgraded accounts isnt bad either.
