hmm Shopping Carts

i have a friend who's been running an online eBay store (Monii Fashions) and it's been 3 months since she had it up. But because of all the hustle and bustle fees from eBay, she wants to step away from it. She asked if I could help her out and all so now i arrive to the point at what cart is good and i know it's all personal preference but i wanted to see what everyone else thought, and i did Google search it but with my luck i kept finding topics dated back in 2005 and 2006.

Some carts i am considering:
Zen Cart
OsCommerce
CRE Loaded Cart

my friend sells clothes, jewelry, etc. etc. so i guess the cart needs to basically have everything eBay stores have and be easily controlled in terms of adding and editing products. Customability terms, it's ok if it's a little bit harder to customize the design and all since i'll be doing that, but a lot of the other things need to be easier. And the cart needs to handle Paypal, manage customers, invoices, etc. etc. which i am pretty sure the 3 above all encompass.

I am currently researching the 3 and will shortly setup demos to play around with, but i would still like your opinions and experiences with the carts if possible.

thanks!!!

I have not personally set up and used a cart before, but I always hear good things about oScommerce.. it seems like the most popular shopping cart around.

do you know if oScommerce has just recently become popular? because when i was doing some Google searching, i found a lot of negative reviews about it due to security flaws and non-password admin panel and no updates and the works...

Hmm in the past when they were still developing it there were security issues - most applications will have them at some point when the hacker kiddies start poking around. I think that the program is stable now.. do a search at www.secunia.com for oscommerce to see past and present issues.

I did some carts using OSC and Zen a year or so ago.
Zen was pretty easy to customize
And my questions were answered in their forum at the time

If you build a site using Joomla, you can use free Virtuemart! virtuemart.com

OsCommerce will only run with register_globals_on, which is never is good thing. The developers are not planning on changing this anytime soon, which is a shame as I'm sure it will lead to a rapid decline in it's use. At least, last time I looked they were not changin it and advising users to create a custom php.ini to change the flag, which I couldn't get to change anything - but then, that was maybe just me. However, why run a cart that has security issues at all?
I used to use it a couple of years ago and it was a good enough cart, now, I would recommend ZenCart, it has all the good points of OsC and none of the bad, it's stable, reliable and easy to modify and skin. The community is helpfull and very active, I don't plan on using any other cart for a long time to come.
