Stand alone Drupal forum with site?

I am creating a website for another host... fascinating!

The question at hand is.. the forum that Drupal provides is very stylish looking. But I don't want to use any of the other features of Drupal.

Anyone know if it's possible to set up Drupal in a seperate folder and just link to its forum feature, without it trying to link up to anything Drupal-ish on the site that it shouldn't be?

I am pretty sure that it can be done... just wondering if anyone here would know.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. You can disable access to anything you don't need. Basically, just install Drupal and set the forum as the front page.

That sounds easy enough. I'll be sure to post back when the site is done.

i never have understood the need for vbulletin. It is one of the few messageboards that dictates a liscence be bought. i guess it is a guarantee that support will be there over the years but there have been many free boards that are as robust or even better.

i have never tried a drupal messageboard but if it is the expense of the vbulletin that is at issue too , theres got to be one similar to drupal as a standalone from these

The ACL stuff that comes with Drupal is actually very very nice. You can pretty much customize access to anything including navigation links on a per user basis.
