It'd be nice if SpamKarma gave a brief "this is how it works" tidbit on the main page. I looked in the documentation a bit, but it's hard to find anything useful.

It looks like it runs locally through with connections to MySQL... which would be bad if queries are running on every comment to examine it. A big negative in my books.

Akismet is by far one of the best things I've ever used.

Before it, I used Bad Behavior and before that SpamKarma. (And before that I used Spaminator, which I don't think is updated at all anymore.) I'd still recommend both SK and BB very much. They work pretty well together -- and even in conjunction with Akismet.

Currently I'm only using Akismet and I've not seen any spam in a long time. (I think the last spam I got was actually a false positive about a year and a half ago and it cracked me up because it was a comment from me!)

Akismet is the best solution to stop spam in WordPress, closely followed by SpamKarma.

I use the Math Comment Spam Protection plug-in. http://sw-guide.de/wordpress/plugins...am-protection/

Never did enable the Askimet plug-in due to needing to mess with an API key.

Doesn't stop human spammers; however, it keeps the bots from doing anything.

I use both Akismet and Bad Behavior, both work hand-n-hand with each other. They've been fighting off spam for months now for me. =)
