I've installed phpbb on one of my domains, and a couple of mods. All's hunky dory for admin purposes, and I can post, navigate, etc.

However, I tested setting up an account and never got an email. I tried a couple of the suggestions at phpbb.com for changing the SMTP settings, nada.

Help would be appreciated.

The forum is installed at:
http://hybrids.macrockets.com/forum/

Thanx,

I don't know if this applies for phpbb or not, but there should be no SMTP settings at all. You should have it setup to be using Sendmail if that option is available.

The phpbb was installed by cPanel, and the config has a setting for whether or not to use SMTP, and if you select yes, setting for SMTP server, username & password. Per phpbb.com, I tried 'localhost' for the server & no username or pwd, didn't work.

Select no.. this should force phpbb to use sendmail. SMTP should not be used for a script on the local server.

Let me know if this works

No was the default setting, which didn't work. I'll try it again.

That didn't work either, but I think I might know what the problem is: I installed the forum on a subdomain 'hybrids.mackrockets.com' from cPanel by telling it to use '../hybrids/forum/' for the path.

Looks like some of the phpbb functions work fine for http://hybrids.macrockets.com/forum, but some are trying to access http://macrockets.com/forum/

Did I foobar the install by putting it into a subdomain? If so, I think I can probably either find all the bad paths & correct them for the subdomain, or I could possibly live with the forum in the main path.

Not sure why this would affect the mailer tho... I still need to learn my way around, maybe check error logs?

TIA,

you can edit the "bad paths" in the config in the admin menu just change the location from http://mainsite.com/subdomain/forum to http://subdomain.mainsite.com/forum

hope that helps a little i try'ed to explain it the easyest i could

Well, that fixed some of the broken paths within the BB, but the mailer still doesn't work. Signed up for a test account, never received an email. The admin mass mailer does work though :frust:
