So I've been meaning to setup an actual site for myself ever since I got rid of PHPNuke (yes, hate me for using it but that's where I basically learned everything)! Anyways, got around to making a theme in Wordpress to act as a blog and my portfolio, so I just want some hard feedback on it...

There are still problems, it's not 100% done. And it's only been tested in Firefox so far.

It's pretty cool, but the colors make my eyes go googly. To much contrast between the black and white and colors...

Interesting tidbit about your name... I always assumed you were an Electrical Engineering student at PennState... thus the double E .. :-)

Font = too small.
Background = well, I just generally don't like pure black backgrounds...

One thing that bothers me... surprisingly it bothers me a lot... is that the green headers is lighter than the sublinks, yet with the blue it's the opposite.

But yeah, definitely increase the font-size. There's no way I would read something of a decent length at that size.

Well the background is actually a textured background, but yeah sometimes it does pure black and it's been bugging me at times too and have debated changing it.

But I don't get what you mean by the green header and sublinks? Do you mean the green bar and then the text within it or the green metadata links?

Interesting, I could have sworn it was all black... but I viewed it with my laptop display a low brightness (everything looks so different when it's brighter).

Yeah, I mean the meta links. For me a design flow issue. Just find it to be bothersome. I like grouping colours, but I sort of associate characteristics with mean. From the one area, lighter means header... it the other it's the opposite. Mind is like, "wtf?".

oh I got yah! Like the brighter/bolder colors on top and then as it moves, it gets lighter signifying less importance i guess? but i think i get the gist of it. Hmm, never really thought of it that way! Interesting. Wonder if everything sees it the same way?

I'd have to say it needs improvement in many areas. All the colors used do not compliment each other in any way. The way that the rainbow accordion is presented makes my eyes bleed. The gradient heading thing where the accordion navigation links are, looks like it should be A) the header or B) smaller with side to side linkage. The accordion navigation thing itself, is an abuse of javascript. It feels like that entire area should link to legitimate pages instead of slide open some content. Also, it's a bad placement for content, since you already have legitimate content below the entire heading area. Overall, it really doesn't look like much time was spent on the entire design. It kinda looks like you just did the design around something that precoded wordpress theme. Generally, that tactic always end in horrific results like a myspace personal page.

Anyways, these are my opinions on your wordpress theme, I hope they weren't too harsh, because it's honestly, legitimate feedback. It entails what is wrong with it and all, so you can improve upon it or just completely design a better design.

WOW!!! That was exactly the type of feedback I was looking for!! To start, the site isn't done yet anyways, that's why it still needs work in a lot of places. Yeah I kind of turned it into a Wordpress theme in the end, when I originally designed it, it was wasn't made to have Wordpress in it but then I was like eh what the heck, lets see how it turns so I just kept pushing it. Yeah I've the designing Web 2.0 article before, but I was kind of trying not to be exactly 2.0ish if you know what I mean. Was trying to move away from the shiny, reflective stuff and what not. But, nonetheless, I DEFINITELY appreciate the feedback. Imma see if I can salvage what I can, or scrap the whole thing and start over. I was debating earlier about just starting over but just couldn't do it since I spent so much time in it already and so I kept pushing it hoping something might come out of it. I might just finish it up, and release in case anyone else likes it.
