SMF Upgrade problems
Problem:
Running SMF 1.0.5. Ran upgrade via Fantastico and received innumerable errors. Fixed some, but more popped up as I fixed them. All pages but index inaccessible. Restored from backup. Forum: Weirick\ - Index What I have done: Have searched SMF forums & Surmunity and have not found any info on jumping from such an old version of SMF to the current 1.1.4. I know it was stupid to wait so long to upgrade. I am helping out a friend with their site & they didn't know. I know from experience that when you wait so long you might have to upgrade to an intermediate version and then on to the most current. I'm wondering if it might now be best to do a fresh install of 1.1.4 in another directory & try to import the old MySql database into it, but it seems likely that there will be tables that end up missing. Any suggestions you might have as to how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated. |

The idea to install a fresh one and then import the data sounds pretty good to me right now. Like you said, put it in a test folder and try it out, it never hurt, and it might just work out. =)

When you login and go to the admin-tab you will see something like this:
Version Information: Forum version: SMF 2.0 Beta 3 Public Current SMF version: SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 Public (more detailed) Forum Administrators: Go to the package manager and download the patch. Btw. As you see, I'm using version 2.0 Beta, so it might work a slightly different.

Edwin,
Thanks for the assistance. You are kind to take the time to contribute. I tried doing the upgrade in the way that you describe first, but it generates the following error which I assume is because the upgrade spans several versions. An Error Has Occurred! The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF. So, I went with the upgrade through the cpanel Fantastico interface which led me here. You can not use the Large Upgrade package via the package manager. You will need to download, extract and manually upload the files via FTP.
As an SMF Customiser, I do recommend that you DO NOT upgrade to SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 Public at this stage, rather to 1.1.5 which is available on the download page on the SMF website: SMF Downloads |

Might have a look at this thread: If you have problems upgrading SMF Forum to v1.1.5

I think that has now been resolved since the packages have been regenerated.
Besides, that will only work if you're using 2.0 Beta 3, 1.1.4 or 1.0.12 which is not the case here as the user is using 1.0.5, the Large Upgrade package on the download page is ONLY option. Last edited by Gazmanafc; May 10th, 2008 at 12:41 PM.. |
