Hi,

Currently I'm running a website, Classic Engraving which isn't accepting credit cards at the moment. I'm thinking of switching over to osCommerce. Does anyone have any tutorials, hints, suggestions, etc...about osCommerce. How much money gets taken out of the total sale when accepting credit cards? This is all new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

OsCommerce would be a great switch. If you have questions about OsCommerce, here is not the place to ask them. OsCommerce has a huge community of developers and users and extensive forums where you can find out everything you want to know, get tips, and help. You should go to oscommerce.com and ask there.

As far as credit card fees that depends on which company you get your merchant account through. Sometimes different ones have higher fees. Visa and Mastercard generally have the same fees all around. AMEX is a bit more. Don't even both with Discover ... yeesh.

You need to get a merchant account first and ask them all the questions. Merchant accounts can be pricey and it's also a lot to worry about if you're inexperienced.

You might be better off using a thirdy party like 2Checkout for now that does everything for you.

If you want a merchant account I recommend GeoTrust.com

Don't forget you need an SSL certificate from http://www.thawte.com/. One of the GEOTRUST.COM plans offers an SSL included so you don't have to buy one seperate.

oscommerce is great. I've runned it on a full-blown e-commerce site with hundreds of customers everyday. It behaves like a charm!

One other quick question. I'm looking not only into 2CO.com but also charge.com and possibly Paypal. Anyone know of charge.com? Is this a reliable company? Also, do you have to have a merchants account for this? Comments/suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!! :P
