I just changed my passwords to match my usernames for the screenshots. I'll change them back when I try again.

PS--OS X is Apple's current OS, and it's the greatest thing ever made. It's actually BSD (mostly) with a nice gui.

you forgot to select mysql version... (mySQL 4)
and instead of "LocalHost" try your server...
top right corner of Cpanel has its name...

i can't choose mysql 4. That dropdown menu only has one thing in it. mysql !! It won't even drop down, it just sits there. I've tried using IE, but it's the same thing.

thanks for all the help, but this is such a giant headache.

oh, and there's no server listed in the top-right corner (or anywhere) in the cpanel.

maybe I'm using the old, feature-less version of the cpanel hehe.

all Cpanels have it! and you got it in an email when you signed up, when you Login to Cpanel, the main menu has all kinds of stuff but at the top right it has:
for me, and for everybody else with their info, no matter what Cpanel they have. DONT GIVE UP! I hate it when people give up, just fill the form out, it really should work now! you can do it, belive in yourself! (got carried away)
let me know how it turned out...

and by the way, there has been some problems with the servers.
even the surpass site was down for 30 m'. so maybe you couldn't install it because of that, and now you can. either way, try again and if it doesn't work just submit a help ticket with surpass. on the nav bar above theres a link. I really hope it works, there isn't any knowlege you need to install that, I have no idea why you have those problems. I instelled it just like that 1000 times.

ok lets put things right.

first the database from the screen shot you provided you have created a database called andypop_galleries, thats fine.

you have created a user for the database called andypop_tommy thats also fine.

now when you created the user for the database you typed in tommy for the username and for the password lets says you typed in baby then the database is created with the username andypop_tommy and the password baby (NOT andypop_baby).

the password does NOT have the prefix of andypop_ to it only the username and database has that NOT the password.

ok now the install screenshot here is what you need to do in order to get it to work

1 "database server type" mysql leave as it is that is fine.

2 "database server hostname" type in localhost (not capital all lower case)

3 "database name" type in andypop_galleries (all lowercase again unless you used capitals when you created it???)

4 "database username" type in andypop_tommy (all lowercase again unless you used capitals when you created it???)

5 "database password" type in the password as you wrote it. the important part here is that if you used capitals on it you must use capitals when you type it. so for instance when you created the database if you typed baby for the password then you type baby in this files (do NOT type in andypop_baby) also if you typed in Baby (capital B on first letter) then you must type in Baby in the field.

from what I can see from the screenshot you provided I am assuming you are typeing in andypop_baby and not just baby.

6 "prefix for tables" just leave as it is

7 "admin username" type what you want as your username for instance tommy (NOT andypop_tommy)

8 "admin password" type in a password you would like (NOT with a prefix)

9 "admin password (confirm)" common sence type in your password again

number 10 press start instalation.

there you go simple as that

thanks guys! ..and WWC, I was ready to give up. I get frustrated when I try something 100 times and it still doesn't work. I was seriously going to delete the files until you said you hate it when people give up. As sappy as that sounds, it kinda struck a nerve. heh.

..and bigboy, it was the password causing the problem. It's always something tiny lke that.

Now, my next project is Movable Type. (don't worry, I won't bother you guys )

Wow, it's great to see you had success. Maybe I won't be so scared when I try to do some installs that I've been putting off, now.

WW did encourage and bigboy came in to save you too. I'm so glad you got it!

I was having trouble skinning pMachine and did the same as you - worked on it over and over again. Finally got it and I actually read the post from WW for inspiration before I tried a few more things.

dont worry if you decide to install something else and need a bit of info just let people on here know im sure they will comethrough for you.

bigest killer is the password as most people think it adds the prefix and as you found out it DOES NOT.

im always willing to help if I have the time and I do visit here a couple of times a day.

main killer for me is I have given up on a few times trying to help people because of the forums auto refresh (which I was told would be removed ages ago???)

I actually remembered about it this time and wrote my reply in notepad and copyed it over (should not have to do that though).

some answers need a step by step help and so take time to type and think about.
