am I looking in the 4images control panel? I see all the settings, but I don't see anything about upload.php and to change it to 777. I'm glad others are using this to help them install on their systems hehe./ap |

do you know what CHMOD is? do you know what ftp is?
ftp is used to upload your files to your site, CHMOD of a file is its permissions. that means that if you CHMOD a file one way than some people couldnt use it or the other way and some could... get it? I thought you knew that, chmod>>777 is premissions for everybody to read and use your file. to chmod a file to 777 go to Cpanel>filemanger>selcet the file>chmod file to>>777 you said that you got an error, and you added a picture of it... fine, to solve the error I think you should CHMOD the upload.php file to 777. that file is inside the directory you installed too. find it, chmod it to 777 and then I think you will be able to upload pics to 4images. the settings part, I just mentiond that because its a good Idea to change them to suite your needs, I hope you got that... its in english, just for you ![]() |

DO NOT chmod any files to 777.
you must chmod only some directories where things will be upload and some files to 666 NOT 777. here is what dir's and files need to be chmoded. Set permissions for the following directories: chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data/database chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data/media chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data/thumbnails chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data/tmp_media chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : data/tmp_thumbnails chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : templates chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : templates/default chmod 777 (drwxrwxrwx) : templates/default/media Set permissions for the following files: chmod 666 (-rw-rw-rw-) : all files in the directory "templates/default" chmod 666 (-rw-rw-rw-) : all files in the directory "templates/default/media" if you are not sure how to chmod the files and directories post here and eith myself or another member or staff will tell you how and where to go in order to do it. regards

I dont have it installed and I have never installed it but there is an instalation.txt file in the docs folder, always pays to read the install info
a general rule of thumb here for you all. if the document gives access denied when you are trying to upload something it usually always means you have not set permisions to a folder where you are attempting to upload it. if you get a permision denied while simply trying to run a script that has nothing other than page view it is most likely permision seting on a file. regards

Hello you wonderful people!
so do any of you have 4images installed? I want to see your thumbnails cuz mine suck -- BAD! Does Surpass have ImageMagick installed? I think that would work a lot better than GD. take a look at these bad thumbs: http://www.andypop.com/pictures I have them set to the maximum quality, so I don't know of any other way to make them better. ..and thanks again for all the help getting this thing installed. I was close twice, but tiny things kept it from working. It works well now, but those thumbs are horrendous. ![]() :bananadance: Peanut Butter Jelly and a Baseball Bat! /ap |

I imagine you are using GD to create thumbnails?
FAQ - Bad thumbnail quality with GD You have to alter the constants.php file in your 4images/includes folder. Essentially, download that file to your computer, then edit it with a basic program (sorry, I don't know what it's called on a Mac). Once you finish editing, then upload it back to the same folder. Here is my 4Images page with the thumbnail correction. I never tried creating thumbnails before altering the constants.php file, so I don't know what they could've looked like. Cheers, Lawrence

For future reference, a lot of problems/questions that have been asked on this forum have solutions that can be located at the 4Images FAQ page.
Another tip: if you get an error message that you can't seem to troubleshoot, search for that particular error message (not the whole message, just bits and pieces of it) in the 4Images forum. Most likely, a lot of other people have experienced the same issue. Cheers, Lawrence

yay! you got it working andy! here are some tips about thumbs: 1) I suggest you do NOT use .jpeg and .jpg pictures. the problem with them is that every time you view them the qulity gets down. If you have them just make copies and renames them to .gif pictures... 2) don't use very BIG pictures either, because it will make the thumbs worse. Quote:
enjoy your 4images, but you can change/remove the copyright... B) |
