Auto Backup - Can it be done

Hi

I was wondering if there was a way to create a backup that will automatically download to my PC each day from cpanel or some other way.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks

I am not entirely sure this is possible, since Cpanel doesn't have a way to automatically initiate the backup from your end. Its only backup feature works to backup to a system wide directory which users aren't allowed direct access.

Something that may be possible would be to write some kind of VBScript file that would goto the appropriate URL for your CPanel and start the backup, and then login to FTP and download it once you receive the notification email that it is complete.

But I really don't know of a direct implementation like this. Another thing to note is that CPanel will only generate full backups of your site, and not incrementals, which would mean you are having to download the entire site each day. It would actually be best if you just remembered to manually do a full backup once a week on a regular basis, and then backup your mysql databases daily, since that is most likely where the bread and butter is.

I did a search the other day and found several scripts for Bash that allow varying types of backups, I was focusing on MySQL automated backups.

Try a google on "Cron script auto backup" I think I used those but added "MySQL".

I used to have a cron job that saved a tar.gz into the root, then My PC would do a scheduled FTP get of that file and store it to my network.
