Process for Suggesting new scripts?

I was wondering where (or if) you can make suggestions to install new scripts on Surpass. I have been looking at an open source project (http://www.theospi.org/) for creating, sharing and managing ePortfolios.

I would love to be able to use this but my limited knowledge of development/deployment of binary files and database setup makes this an onerous task. Apparently, this is what the server needs for it to function:

Requirements
------------
- In order to install the OSPI application, you will need certain other
applications. This document will not detail on how to install these, but they
must be installed (and where appropriate configured) by the installer.

1) Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1-b21)
2) jakarta-tomcat version 4.1.18 (or newer).
3) If to be used in conjunction with Apache, Apache 1.3 will be required.
4) jakarta-ant 1.5.1 (http://ant.apache.org/)
5) A database must be configured to run OSPI portfolio in.
Oracle, mySQL, and postGREs are currently being tested.

I don't know enough about the shared hosting system to determine if my account will support this.

Looks very nice. I will see what can be done but we definitely don't have such java support on shared servers. :geeky: You could install this on a dedicated without a problem, because it would only be your account and your actions.

Thanks for looking into it. I can't ask for more than that. I'm afraid that I can't afford the dedicated server monthly prices, although they're probably quite reasonable for what you get.

...Maybe there's 9 other people out there that would want to share a dedicated server for the same monthly cost of the deluxe shared hosting package

Hmm, I think you should start a thread in Gen. Conv. and ask that very question. I can make it a sticky and keep it at the top. If all parties were responsible, you'd all have a fast server on your hands and the ability to keep it that way.

Unfortunately, the Tomcat requirement is the pain in the butt here. Its not very easy to setup and lot's of problems involved with it, so it will never be available as an auto-install I am afraid.

Any idea how to contact scripta or fantastico about suggesting scripts for inclusion? Working on a new version of my download manager which I would like to suggest once it's been optimized a bit

To suggest any scripts, they must be GPL, or you must contact the author before, and get their permission before. Then email abusesurpasshosting.com (me ) and I will look into getting into the next Scripta :grrr: :ivn:

Just wanted to top this thread to check if the process has changed for getting scripts added to scripta? I've just finished the latest version of my script and I would like to offer it. More details at www.rwscripts.com
Its proved VERY popular with around 100,000 downloads since its first release a couple of years back. This one should be much more efficient on the SQL queries and more secure too.

Surpass no longer uses Scripta because it was very hard to keep it up to date, they've switched to Fantastico.
