I believe unless you're a reseller you cannot actually allot bandwidth, etc. You would need WHM to do such a thing.
On the standard plans I believe all add-ons and subs do the same thing - point to a subdomain off the main account. If you're not worried that your friend would hose your bandwidth, why not just add a CMS like Xoops, Mamboserver, phpNuke or even one of the CMS addons for phpBB or Invision board? That would in effect give him a webby, albeit without strict bandwidth allotment. You could give him a FTP account and access to that subdomain only. Then he could register/transfer his domain name to someone like Godaddy (excellent control panel) who offers FREE domain pointing/masking, making his subdomain appear as a genuine domain. One thing though, I don't think he'd be able to use security certificates directly if that was an issue. Also, unless you give him your signon, he won't have access to CPanel. Come to think of it, with a subdomain having ftp, he could upload whatever he wanted (html, etc.) although personally I'd think the fullfeatured CMS approach would be the most useful. |

Etan is correct.
You CAN add-on domains. But you cannot 'restrict' use of bandwidth or storage automatically. Only ONE Cpanel will be allocated. John

this is why i dont get the addon domain :ktoe:
because if it s only make a forward or just point 2 a subdomain we can do it in surpassnot only by using godaddy, when u manage a domain name u can forward it 2 another site so why 2 pay on a addon domain this is why i m lost :angry7: exept if i missunderstood the meaning of addon domains again :lol3: anyway .... Thank's :surpass: :surpass: :surpass: :surpass: |

Godaddy uses a redirect, which, if I'm not mistaken causes the REAL URL to show up...
So even if you have 'mysite.com' on godaddy pointing to 'myfirstweb.com/mysite', when users type in 'mysite.com' they're going to ultimately see 'myfirstweb.com/mysite'... Anyway, the Addon domain makes things clean, because it's an actual domain record ON THE HOST SERVER. John
