XOOPS Help Area

XOOPS ( www.xoops.org ) is a very popular portal system.

We are currently working on a XOOPS help area with useful information.

It is under construction, but we always let Surpassers in on the goods. :love3:

Cool! You can perhaps answer a question.

Can I create groups that have the ability to administer "sections" of the xoops site? I mean, if I add a section, can I then make it viewable by all but editable by a certain group?

Yes, you can do that. Go into the System Admin area, and go to "Groups".

There you can set the access permissions for each block for each group. By default, xoops comes with 3 predefined groups: Anonymous Users, Registered Users, and Webmasters. At the bottom of the page however, there is a button to "Create New Group".

Create whatever groups you want. Then, while giving everyone block and module access rights, enable module admin rights only for the group(s) that you want to have it.

That should do it.

Any questions? Either post them here, drop me an email, or pm me.

Failure is not an option. It comes standard with all Microsoft products.

What about relationship of groups... I mean, can you create a subgroup of users - such as they have all the permissions of 'registered users' but also these other permissions? Or do I have to manually assign people to one group or another, and ensure that the permissions are set correctly?

Just had another thought... how could I incorporate an RSS feed into the news module?

Do you mean put groups in groups? Don't think that's possible, but I could be wrong. I believe people can be in more than 1 group though (haven't needed to do that yet, but will be soon).

As for RSS feeds, the headline module does that. There is also a module called MyHeadlines, one called FreeContent 3.0 (credits to the author all over the place), and I believe (danger - trying to use my memory) a Lykos module that'll do RSS.

I'll look into it and let you know for sure.
