You say temp - I assume you mean template, but probably mean theme. Xoops uses both. Typically, you'll be playing with themes. Most themes use the default template that comes with xoops. If a different template is required for a specific theme, the author will include it with the theme.

Before messing with templates, I would suggest seeing what can be done with themes. You'd be surprised at how different you can make a site look.

To install a theme, upload the folder (directory) containing the theme to the "themes" directory, located in the root of the xoops install. You can then select the theme from the "Preferences -> General Settings" menu under the System Admin menu in the admin section. You will also want to turn on the option "Update module template .html files from themes/your theme/templates directory?", found in the same section.

Lastly, if you change themes and don't see a change on your site, try deleting all of the files (except index.html if present) from the templates_c directory, and reload the page.

I know this sounds like a lot of steps, but once you've done it a few times, it's second nature. Promise.

John

there's a phpbb hack available for xoops - requires replacing a few core files but a very nice integration. you can find it on the xoops.org main site.
