file manager in cPanel

i am just wondering.....
is it no harm to delete public_html in the file manager?
and i create new folder name public_html...
will it work the way it was before?
i meant, i only have junk files myself and i wanna clean up all the files.
coz i saw in file manager, it can only delete under my domain /domain.name
i can't be able to delete the subdirectories under /public_html or /public_ftp so on. because i think under the login, www is only redirected to public_html.. or is it vice versa?
please let me know and thanks for the answers

i am just newbie.
thanks

I am not sure if the public_html file holds any system links or special configuration for the system, but to play it safe I would just log in through FTP and select all of the files for deletion.

You definately should get an FTP program like SmartFTP (my personal favourite) or Filezilla (Bigjohn will be along vouching for this one) and then delete what's inside your public_html folder from there. I would not recommend wiping out the whole folder.

thanks so much for the replies
actually, i followed you guys advised about asking FTP programs
but after i install and uninstall some script ta programs
i saw some files and folders can't delete
u kindly let me know about smartFTP and Filezilla of course BigJohn as well.. and i can be able to delete those folders with directories, but some old script ta programs' folder remained undeleted...
and folders are like /^%&%^&%906848894
/#[at]#$796906090

ya know, things like shift 1-0 keys, and 1-0 keys randomly
php nuke was one of them, and one open source program from script ta
they remained undeleted even though i remove it from the script ta remove installation.
but all the mysql files were removed though
i am just novice in this and just curious coz i find that this forum is really helpful

so, i can gain extra knowledge by roaming around the topics everyday
thanks again

Which FTP client are you using? Some will not allow you to delete folders unless the filess inside it have already been deleted.

It's the only FTP client I've used for a couple of years. I love it.

Yep -- Great client. I've tried others that work just as well, but I have all my settings in SmartFTP and some passwords I don't have a clue as to what they are.

Hrm.. I was gonna address my reply to Mike, but since you're both Mike's I guess I should be more specific..

Haugland, you can change a setting in SmartFTP so that it doesn't hide your password, so you'll know what they are. I did that when I reinstalled, too many problems with not knowing them.

And I'm glad you were able to figure it out Nanda.
