If myweb.com is your domain, then tony.myweb.com and stuff.myweb.com would be subdomains. myweb2.com or myweb.net or tonysstuff.com would be an add-on domain.

that is correct. BOTH will, however, reside is a FOLDER under the PUBLIC_HTML of the main domain.

Hi, newbie here. I heard about Surpass from the great and powerful Partsking (hi Steve!)
I was trying to make the distinction myself when I tried to add a domain the other day. What I'm trying to fugure out is: I have a Shared/Pro account. Say my main domain is hi.com, and I also want to house howareya.com. Using the add-on utility, it allows me to add the domain, but it seems to assign a physical address that is a subdomain of hi.com, howareya.hi.com. Are add-on domains able to reside independently as their own name? I'd like my addons to not have the appearance of subs of my primary in the address box, otherwise I may need to switch my primary domain as it's for a friend's website. Obviously, I'm also a novice, so I could be missing something simple in cPanel... |

Well, what happens with an add-on is it does indeed create a subdomain, but when you access howareya.com it will show that, not howareya.hi.com. I can't tell you exactly why a subdomain is created, but it is.
It will work fine independently. |

The subdomain doesn't need to be the same as the add-on domain.
howareya.com can be jdsfldsncsd.hi.com, and you can simply refrain from telling anyone that jdsfldsncsd.hi.com exists. This is sort of what I do.
