Country Domains

Not sure if this has to do with all country domains, but I was thinking of purchasing a .ca domain ( Canada ) but it asks for some information that I have no clue about.

Has anyone here purchased a .ca domain, and if so, do you need to be some registered company or something in order to order one?

Nope - I know quite a few people who have purchased .ca domains from the US / without a Canada address/credit card.

hmm ok, well I am trying to order one through namecheap and it keeps asking for some kind of ID or something. I am going to try from another domain registrar.

Are you sure removed? They're pretty strict about registrations... everything goes through CIRA and I'm positive they require either Canadian citizenship or a Canadian address.

I have a .ca domain... but i registered it like 3-4 years ago, i dont honestly remember the details... you are required to be a citizen and need to apply with a canadian address? but i honestly cant remember if they wanted like, a photo id faxed to them haha

heh, thanks for the info.

I went ahead and registered it through namecheap.com. Seemed some sort of trademark ID got me confused. I just had to place that I was a canadian citizen and then have my full name as the company.

Then, the domain had to go through CIRA and I had to do some validation through that site to make sure all the information was correct. Took about 24 hours to get the domain. Then of course the regular DNS time.

Seems to be working good now

I don't recall ever having to send them ID (I've registered at least 3)... I know the first one you register has a rather interesting form, but some registrars will do it on your behalf.

Nope, didn't have to send any ID. I just had to validate that the Administration Contact Info was correct and have it all registered in CIRA.
