Google Apps - Need to change CNAME and Mx Records...

I've just signed up for Google Apps and it seems before we can start using the applications, we'll need to change MX records as well as the CName.

My domain provider is a reseller of Enom, so I tried to login to change these details, only to find that it says that these settings can only be changed *if* default DNS values are used - ie. I can't use Surpass or any other DNS server. I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do... any suggestions would be appreciated!

You can file a ticket with support, and they can change those for you easily. If you have a reseller, you may also be able to change them yourself in your WHM.

Thank you! I'll try and raise a ticket now and see what happens. The main thing is to change the MX records rather than the CNAME. Funny how the Enom interface has changed - I'm sure one used to be able to change these without having to use the default DNS.

flick, can you let us know your experiences with Google Apps? We would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Absolutely One thing I have to say though - the Surpass support team are wonderful! ^^

So far - have managed to get the mail, start page and calendar working along with 'Customised url' (where the long url for the GoogleApp ->e.g. http://mail.yourdomain.com) Cname and MXrecords change all done by the Support Team here at Surpass, thank you.

I've also tested sending/receiving email from the main account - if mailing within Gmail, emails are sent instantly; if sent to Yahoo, there's a timelag (about an hour?) but Yahoo! to GoogleApps Gmail is almost instantaneous. Not sure about other providers yet .

At the moment my account allows up to 50 accounts to be created (each with about 2GB limit) but I understand that I can ask for more if required. None of my users are available to test their settings at the moment so can't say much at this point.

There's a group on Google that others might like to visit to get some more opinions on current issues:

I've been using Google Apps for several months now. I primarily check my e-mail through Mail.app, but it's been very, very reliable. The only outage was my fault due to mis-configuring the settings at the MX level. It's not all that customizable, but it does the job. All it's really missing is contact sharing between accounts. We'd love to use it at work, but the lack of being able to share client contacts has pretty much prevented it.

I've been using Google Hosted for quite some time now and have "converted" all of my domains to receive e-mail that way. The only thing I forget when I need to send mail from a server, is to make sure I add that e-mail account into cPanel.

Kept thinking my php form was screwy! And then duh, realized the e-mail accounts did not excist. DOH

In case anyone is wondering, we use it at our office. We switched over on 1/1/07. It's great! It is reliable and easy to use - two things that are important to a small business (~10 users). If anyone has any questions about it - just ask...
