Arrow Transferring domain & hosting

I just became the webmaster of my club (I didn't step back fast enough)

They currently have Tucows for registrar and Fatcow as hosting. Both suck.
Hopefully today I am going to transfer everything over to my favorite GoDaddy/Surpass combo. Problem is that it is all in the name of the club which is a corp. so I'll see how it goes. Wish me luck. Hopefully Fatcow will cooperate and all will go well. The least they can do is let me leave in peace...

I would first work on the domain name becuase that may be a challenge. Remember you will have to unlock the domain if it's locked at Tucows before initiating the transfer request to Godaddy. Once the transfer is successful, I would then work on getting the hosting switched.

If Fatcow gives you a problem, and the sites are static, it wouldn't be too bad to view source for each page, grab the images and create new pages if it came down to that.

Good luck!

So far so good. I have created an account with GoDaddy and initiated a transfer on the domain. They have responded stating that they have sent Fatcow a transfer request and are awaiting their reply.
I looked all over the place at Fatcow and Tucows for a place to administer the domain name but I don't see any. Tucows just says that any domains registered with them must be administered with the Tucows supported host related to the account, which in this case is Fatcow. On Fatcow I don't see any place to lock or unlock domains.
Hopefully they are just going to send a verification email to the address on file at Fatcow which I can then authorize and it will work. Otherwise issues will be had.

As far as the actual site itself that's seems to be less of a problem. I opened an account here at Surpass and seems to be going well. I have the entire site itself backed up already on my PC so when I get the temporary account info from Surpass I can upload everything and then it should be just a matter of changing DNS servers listed at GoDaddy when the transfer goes through.

So now I just await the next move by Fatcow. Hopefully they will let me go with ease.

Sounds good, your club should be happy with moving to a real host

Well, I did a search at fatcow as well, and I could only find info on transfering your domain INTO fatcow.... (roach motel setup...)

Also, they seem to lack a wiki, and a supercool user community ;-)

Well step 1 is complete. I just got the new account email from Surpass and set up my hosting. Transferred all my files over and that is working fine as long as I use the IP address to access my site. So far so good.

Domain transfer not as good. Looks like it is going smooth but now word all day today. GoDaddy status says "pending authorization from old registrar" so I guess the old/current registrar has to approve it to let me go before GoDaddy can take me over.

I thought that would take just a few hours but I called GoDaddy and they said depending on the registrar it could take 3 to 5 days. Oh well. I'll give it a few days and see on Monday if Fatcow/Tucows "let me go". Geez. It's like breaking up.

I've seen it take longer than 3-5 days. Godaddy cannot transfer that domain until someone physically approves the transfer. Because of that, you are at the discretion of the place you are leaving.

That is, unless you can unlock and lock your own domain name (like at Godaddy) and it seems to not take as long.
