I am at my wit's end.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought I would get my dad a web page and his own domain for his birthday, and host and maintain it for him on my copious Surpass space. Along the way, I tried to purchase a couple of other domains which are ostensibly still available.

Since then, everything has been utter hell. My domain (tomsmithonline.com, dns3/dns4.surpasshosting.com) is fine, but my dad's (tomthewineman.com, dns15/dns16) still hasn't shown up, although it is at least registered. I never got the support e-mail explaining how and where to aim things. I have e-mailed supportsurpassdomains.com twice, with no response. The FAQs are useless, misleading, roundabout, and don't explain a darn thing.

Now, trying to do what the frickin' system told me to, I got a message saying that the Admin would be alerted to my attempt to hijack the domain I'm trying to set up for my dad.

Enough.

Here is what I want: I want someone from Surpass to find out what is going on with these domains. I want a plain-English explanation of how to set up what, so that when someone enters www.tomthewineman.com they get directed to whatever the hell folder it needs to be in my space. I want some kind of response from someone, please. And I want it soon.

There are acceptable levels of service, and unacceptable levels. And then there is none at all. That's where I am, guys. All I want is some help.

Thank you,
Tom Smith

I think maybe you made a mistake.. supportsurpassdomains.com doesn't exist.. should have bounced back. Maybe you just made a typo.
At any rate, you manage all domains in your SurpassDomains.com control panel. You should have one username/password combo for that.
When you log in, you click Manage Domains.
Then you click the Manage button next to the one you want to edit.
Then you click Change Nameservers.

I see you have yours set to dns3.surpasshosting.com dns4.surpasshosting.com (for tomwineman.com)
If you are on one of our new serves.. those aren't the DNS. I'm not saying you did it wrong, that you put those there... or if it is a glitch in our system for your record. I am just saying, that they are wrong and must be changed to the ones in your welcome email.

I would greatly appreciate that. And I misspoke: It was indeed "webmastersurpassdomains.com".

Regarding that welcome e-mail: I didn't get one this time. So I've been flying blind.

And the Change Nameservers section is confusing, contradictory, and punctuated with a whole lot of "don't do this if you don't know what you're doing" warnings. Sorry, but its documentation really is unhelpful.

(It was in the process of attempting to move tomthewineman.com from dns15 and 16 to dns3 and 4 that I got the Alert, which let me know that I was trying to hijack my own domain.)

Surpass has been an excellent host, and I ain't goin' anywhere. But this just seems too much trouble.

Indeed, I sing. Four albums worth, plus a compilation. "Fastest" because I come up with lyrics in a big hurry at times -- often improv'd.

There isn't an order that day for tomthewineman, no wonder the info never got to you and no wonder the account isn't even on the server. Something went wrong.

If you would PM me how you paid, I will refund and cancel the bill so that you can place a new order. It should work out. I think you ordered while we updated our ordering sys.. seems to be around that date.

I have changed the dns to 17/18 to match the new server the site would go on now (just added another for shared accounts).

Please let me know about all of this in a PM. Thanks

Are you also a famous filker? :o

Forwarded the stuff this morning. Thank you for helping.

And, yeah, I am kinda famous Truthfully, I'm a fairly large frickin' shark, in the music industry Dixie cup that is filk. My guitar work is only average to mediocre, but my voice is flexible, my lyrics are, he demured, second to none, and I work my butt off in live performance. I've got some streaming audio on the Download page - give a listen.
