Domain names - ResellerClub vs GoDaddy vs eNom
Until I came here I'd never thought about a reseller account but after one of you fine people pointed out eNom accounts for your customers, I then started to research.
First of all I can't believe how much money I've wasted over the years on paying full price for my domains. Anyway with my current host I have the following: .com - 7 .co.uk - 15 .net - 12 .org - 2 .info - 3 .eu - 1 And a few more with other hosts, but for now we'll deal with this one. From what I see eNom don't do .co.uk and ResellerClub is about as cheap as registering at full price in the UK For .co.uk it seems I may need to use these: Easynic Product Price List - Up to date pricing for all our services Never been a fan of easyspace, but oh well. So from the 3 - ResellerClub vs GoDaddy vs eNom - Which is probably the best at what they do (not price, I can see who's best there myself). most people at WHT - Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet - seem to favour ResellerClub My next question is about cPanel/WMH, I've never really used either of these before. But I've heard many things, so my questions: Can customers order domains through these? Someone mentioned billing in another thread, can these handle this too? If so is there an api or a way to have a customer order a package and be signed up automatically with account permissions? I presume customers could play with their DNS & MX records? And Sub Domains? If a customer can order a domain name through them, I presume I could set it up to use different providers, easynic for UK's and one of the others for the rest, or perhaps per domain with different providers? Normally I deal with these things manually, I've looked at other automated solutions before but never gone with any of them. Thanks for enduring my never ending threads of boredom. ![]() |

I highly prefer Godaddy.com for my domain names. I've been using them for over 3 years now and have never had an issue with them. Sure the price increase got me a little miffed, but other then that, I trust them with my domain name. =)
About the package/billing/domain registeration script, I would go with our free copy of WHMCS! Free Resources and Tools at Surpass Hosting - WHM CS With WHMCS you are able to import all of your accounts from WHM to WHMCS and also packages already made. Like you asked above, you are able to set the settings so that accounts can be created automatically after sign-up or payment approval, of course there are many other options for this. There is also a feature for domain registration with a list of domain reseller host for you to use. So I highly recommend you to check it out and download it! We also have quite a few tutorials and articles in regards to WHMCS within out web hosting tutorials and search me boards here on the forums! Good luck! =) |

Hi Roxy,
Thanks for that. I've been corresponding with GoDaddy yesterday and today and I'll be honest in saying I'm not that impressed at the moment with them. My first question to them was about how billing is managed and how I paid my yearly fee, lets assume I used their api and implemented it in a site. User comes along orders domain and pays me. The order goes to GoDaddy, how do they charge me in $'s, £'s or EURO's. They replied: Quote:
I then asked about tax, would they charge me VAT (The UK tax) or an American tax. They replied: Quote:
I did explain I reside in the UK and asked if it would be VAT or something else. I then replied with "I'm a UK citizen meaning in my country we have VAT. Would this be applicable with you guys or do I pay a different IVA, VAT, tax." And their replied: Quote:
When buying things in EUROPE we also pay VAT in the UK. Because this company is American and I'm not ordering goods do I still pay it. If they are charging in £'s and operate in Europe does that mean I have VAT to pay them. They may have an office in Europe, I don't know. These are not questions I'm asking you, but answers I'm trying to get from them as I assumed they would deal with various British companies. Saying that if anyone in the UK is here and has experience and advice that would be cool also. Thanks for listening, I'll go back to my corner now :-) |

Ah, I see why you wouldn't be impressed. =(
Well I would recommend Godaddy.com to anyone looking for a reliable domain name host, as for domain name reselling, we also provide a FREE account with Enom. Free Resources and Tools at Surpass Hosting - Free Domain Reseller Account A $195 value, free to all of our Surpass Reseller customers. A great deal if you ask me. Hopefully users from UK who have more experience with both Godaddy and/or Enom will be able to answer you with their point of view of the situation. =) |

Can I assume based on what you say, this is not the usual experience when dealing GoDaddy direct?
If we were to go on price alone here's how it plays: GoDaddy - Cheapest domains - Yearly fee of about £50 or £100 depending on what you want to pay for your domain names. eNom - Most expensive on domains - Free to sign up through Surpass with a minimum deposit of $100 to start. easynic - Seem about the same prices as Enom - £65 sign up for 20+ domains, with other tiers for more domains. ResellerClub - Middle of the road on prices - Free to sign up with a minimum deposit of $199 - The more you spend with them the cheaper it gets, after spending $3000 their prices are about the same or cheaper than GoDaddy. This based on GoDaddy providing prices in GBP (£), the other services provide details in $'s, from that a rough conversion was made based on the current exchange rate. I'd prefer these companies to charge me in £'s as this way I know what I'm paying now and in a year but paying in dollars it all depends on our economies. Anyway, price aside I'm interested in peoples experiences with these companies. If your a not a reseller but have had experience with them, I'd still be interested in hearing it. |

Godaddy also have WildWestDomains which caters for the reseller, it has options of reseller package and prices, you can also designate your own account as trade not retail etc. Customers make their own account and sort it out themselves, you can also use the API on your own site as well as the pre-prep one.
VAT is a little odd and dare I say many companies appear to use it as a way to bump profit (ask for a VAT receipt from many overseas and watch the silence or buy a manual and ask why VAT is charged) plus is VAT not to based upon the delivery address of a product which attracts added value as opposed to the usual purchasers card address. Therefore, domain names may be zero VAT but the added email and hosting services may attract VAT is the buyer collects and operates from the EU.

Anyone have any experience of DirectI?
WHMCS have a domain name reseller package that is also free to sign up to. As a Surpass customer you get a free licence for WHMCS and as a WHMCS user you get a free EHMCS domain name reseller account. .com, .net, .org, .info etc are $7.95 athough you need to fund your account with paypal and they charge you the paypal fee as well so add about 50 cents! I still find it good value. They are a little expensive for .uk domains though. I am thinking of signing up for an eNOM $195 reseller account to get cheaper .uk domains through them as Surpass eNOM reseller package although free is more expsnsive for .uk domains than eNOM is direct. Hoping to have DirectI set up for .com and eNOM for .uk on whmcs. Should work a dream and once I sell 50 domains I have broken even on the eNOM $195 set up fee. It's all rather confusing!! The ONLY problem I have with WHMCS is the abruptness and sometimes rudeness and lack of helpfulness of their support staff - you are lucky if you get a one line answer to questions and sometimes talk down to you! Apart from that I have had NO problems with their Domain Name Reseller system. domains.whmcs.com/reseller is the address |
