Custom domains

Ok, I'm totally new to this, so any help would be nice and welcomed. I'm reselling hosting and I would like to offer domains too. The problem with domains is that I would like to use custom domains, but I don't know how to use it. What do I need to do in order to provide my users with custom domains?

= Custom DNS
= Personalized Domain Names

That is, when you do a whois with one of my customers domains it must appear "myresellersite.com" instead "dizinc.com" or "surpass_server.com"

Hope it was better expressed. Sorry for my vile English

you might want to get a domain reseller package from surpass for $50

I dont get this custom domain thing ... do you mean subdomains like

http://example.yourdomain.com
http://another.yourdomain.com

or proper domains like

http://www.mysite.com

if you mean the later, then you will want a domain reseller account for $50. You can buy domains from surpass at $9 each and markup the price.

If you want to resell subdomains you can do that by going to WHM and adding an account where the domain is (in this format) subdomain.yourdomain.com

Or perhaps you are talking about the custom DNS where you setup your own Nameservers like

ns1.mydomain.com
ns2.mydomain.com

There will be an option for doing this at your domain authority control panel, just use the ips provided in the welcome email of the surpass DNS

Hope this helps - sorry I couldnt pinpoint exactly what you were looking for.

ok while i was typing my last responce you gave extra information. I see you mean custom name servers:

like ns1.yourdomain.com instead of ns1.dizinc.com

Go to the place where you ordered your domain.
Log in to your domain control panel
Choose Add Custom Name Servers or equivalent link (The exact title varies from registrar to registrar)

Open your welcome email and look for the information similar to this:

Quote:
DNS SERVERS FOR YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS:

ns100.dizinc.com
66.194.41.160

ns101.dizinc.com
66.194.152.190
Then enter at the control panel

ns1.<yourdomain>.com 66.194.41.160 (Taken from 1st NS in email)

and

ns2.<yourdomain>.com 66.194.152.190 (Taken from 2nd NS in email)

Then save the changes and allow upto 48hrs for the changes to take place.

then you can give your clients your custom nameservers and dizinc.com won't appear in their whois info !

Hope that helps!

Ok, this last response is what I was looking for. BTW, you've got my attention. Where I may go to know more about the domain reseller accounts. I can't remember to see anything about it at surpasshosting.com . Do you mean I "suscribe" by $50 then I buy each domain at $9 to sell it at, say, $20? If I do this... would the domain appear as if I was the original seller?

Assuming you have a Bronze or higher reseller account, you can use custom DNS. To do this you need to contact the people you registered your domain name through and tell them your custom dns and the IP's that go with it. Then they will show as ns1.mydomain.com, rather than ns100.dizinc.com.

There was a time in the past that custom DNS were a big deal and that customers in the know about this sort of thing would have been extremely impressed. I really wonder if that holds true anymore.

If your customers register their domains through the same service you use then everything should work when you give out custom DNS's, otherwise I presume that they will have to notify the registrar as well, which seems to defeat the purpose.

I got all excited about having custom DNS's but to be honest, dizinc is such a non-decript name that I've just started using that. The other issue is that if in the future surpass changes the server IP for some reason (not that it is likely), then you have to change all the custom DNS's where you register and where your clients register.
