It's nothing to do with being lazy. It's more to do with that thirdparty application is running on start-up slowing down the PC. I don't have a powerhouse PC.. Just a basic P3. Did you ever consider that I'm not someone that likes to download many attachments which are already bundled inside of a pre-existing program on my computer?
I also love how you assume there will be all these exploits for Outlook Express and Microsoft. You know there's exploits for Mozilla products too right? And even if I do get burned, I'll at least know the cause and deal with it next time.

Before you assume someone is too lazy to download small plug-ins, you should check to see if they're too lazy to update the existing programs and system files on their computer. As far as I'm concerned, that's a hell of a lot more important than using a program because it's not made by Microsoft.

What ever happened to letting people use what they're comfortable using?

ah, mail wars.

im a thunderbird user. it takes some getting used to, but the settings/mail etc from Lookout do import.

main shortcoming? needs a few plugins to be work nice.

lookout express does have a decent UI, i'll give it that. personally, i tired of cleaning up viruses at moms house that it and norton let slide.

i have a theory about viruses. whatever the dominant OS/application is - is the one that will be the big target for virus writers. hence why viri are unheard on macs, and less so on mozilla products.

If you're comfortable using OE, then by all means use it. Enjoy trying to keep up with the constant flow of patches from Microsloth.

I'm very comfortable with OE. Easy to use, easy to configure. I have no problem keeping up with the patches, as anyone should anyhow. Not patching your system is the biggest problem most people have. I just hope next time you refrain by judging me by preference of program. I'd prefer to not have to defend myself when I say I use a Microsoft product. I did install Thunderbird, and I did run it. It did import my settings and old mail during the setup (except passwords..) Seemed to be quite similar in the way everything runs to be honest. But for the time being, I'll stick with OE as it supports Hotmail natively.

Sam -- That theory is one I believe too. Similar to how it Mozilla was in Microsofts place in the browser world, we'd see a lot more security exploits for that product. Same goes for Opera or any other browser. Holes can't be fixes until their known. Of course good coding will prevent them, but nobody's perfect.

That is the problem, where you have to patch OE. Thunderbird doesn't need to patch its self for 3 years.

Thunderbird is built from the ground up, people can view the source code, making it have higher standards then proprietary programs.

Well, I just discovered another non-liking about it. It will only use one accounts SMTP settings to send mail. So if I have multiple accounts on different servers, it will be sending through one account's settings. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that be a problem somewhere down the road when the domain of the email sender is different from the domain of outgoing mail?

And once again... I want a client that supports Hotmail.

By the way.. Open-source holds no guarentee of a product better than a closed-source production. Hello propoganda.

I'm curious - given that everyone here probably owns their own domain, why do you use Hotmail, GMail, etc?
