I use outside mail for reliability issues (if my domain goes down, they are still up) as well as I can access them on any computer very easily (when I remember my passwords). I also use different emails for different things. Anything internet related is sent to a variety of domain emails, whereas school and anything directly Surpass related goes to my gmail, and my friends send to my hotmail as I use it for messenger. I have a yahoo account somewhere, but I don't even check that email. It's all just an organization effort on my part.

I'm using Hotmail because I did some Beta Testing for MS and I had to sign up to use their services. I am using GMail, well, because who isn't? It's sort of a fad-ish more than practical thing I think. I use my primary (Surpass hosted) email address more often then not, but it's nice to have alternates.

I use Firefox, but haven't made the switch to Thunderbird yet. Not sure that I will, but you never know.
I'm quite content with Kontact for now. A solid mail app on top of a solid OS (SuSE 9.2 Pro). For those uneasy about leaving OE, I'm guessing leaving Windows is entirely out of the question. John

The Mozilla Foundation is hatching yet another software project to challenge a key Microsoft title.
The new project, code-named Lightning, aims to integrate Mozilla's calendar application, Sunbird, with its recently released Thunderbird e-mail application. That integration is aimed right at the heart of Microsoft's widely used Outlook software. |

I use Thunderbird and I really enjoy it. I haven't had to install any extra stuff. Yay for that.
I also use Yahoo b/c with my old host, mail would go down for hours at a time. You always have to have a back up. The only thing I have ever had a problem with is that I rely on Yahoo Companion a lot and FireFox hasn't allowed that to be added to their software. Other than that I like Mozilla products. I think the main issue here is that while Mozilla might have some really good products (I only have FF and TB...) Microsoft is what most of us use on a primary basis. And while some Microsoft products have bugs, problems, etc... not every thing that comes out is going to be perfect. Any Mozilla product is going to have a few bugs. And yes, I understand that they can get those updated faster... but there is a good reason for that. Microsoft has how many million users running their products. It's not entirely impossible to get all the bugs fixed, but it just takes longer because you have to make sure it runs for every system in every language, etc. I don't mean to praise Microsoft, b/c I ran on ME for awhile and that sucked, but most of my computer experience comes from Microsoft products that haven't really caused me trouble. Sorry for rambling. Happy Holidays!

I wish thunderbird DID use "norton" to scan mail - but it does not (at least not by default), nor does it, from the view window, allow you to move to the next or previous message like Outlook and Outlook Express. I do like the ability to have 5 accounts open at once though... using Imap...

I just made the switch from Outlook to Thunderbird today, it works great.
A few things that I enjoy are: Norton Anti-Spam works with it. It allows you to have RSS feeds right to your e-mail It has easy installation and importing from Outlook Give it a shot, download it and try it out!
