I have a question.. Will it auto-matically use my Outlook Express settings? Does Norton Anti-virus scan the mail?

Norton ?
- I personally Do Not use Norton but it should work fine, as well as other AV's that scan emails. Outlook ? - How do I import e-mail messages from another mail program? Go to Tools > Import, which will bring up a dialog to guide you through the process. |

Alright, sounds good.. I'll give it a try and see if I like the feel. But one thing it MUST do is support Hotmail. That's what primarily kept me from using the e-mail program built-in to Opera.

Another example is Gotmail, which is a utility to non-interactively download email from a Hotmail account. It can download messages from all folders, messages from certain folders, or new messages only. There are options to delete downloaded messages or mark them as read. Gotmail can forward messages to other email addresses or save them as local mbox-style mailboxes. |

I'll stick with Outlook Express then. I was quite disappointed when I didn't find them in Thunderbird.
Thanks for mentioning it though. *uninstalls all Mozilla products* |

Well, fact is. Outlook Express works as is. No need to download an extra application. You might claim Thunderbird is safer, but with SP2, Outlook Express is probably more secure than you're willing to admit. No one in my household has ever gotten a virus or worm through Outlook Express either. I believe the risk would be just as great in Thunderbird if you weren't running an Anti-Virus application.
I did hope to make a switch from Outlook, just to try something else. But it seems just like Firefox, you need to download extentions or in this case, a third party application to get it to work the way another program works. Oh and spam prevention.. well... I don't get it on any of the accounts I have in Outlook (which is all besides yahoo and gmail) so there's no worry of that right now. Thanks anyways. |

At least Thunderbird isn't hooked into the OS like Outlook Express is. Sure, SP2 makes it more secure FOR NOW, but just look at the continuing crop of Windoze exploits that keep popping up. Look at how MS drags their feet when it comes to issuing patches. Using OE is like playing with fire. Eventually you'll get burned.
And how lazy does one have to be if they can't spend five minutes to configure a third party app, or five seconds to download an extension? No offense, but its inherent user apathy that is the biggest problem when it comes to home PCs. |
