POP account problems

I've been having trouble for awhile now. It's not that the email doesn't work, but that it's annoying me and the people whose email I host.

My settings in Thunderbird 1.0 are:

incoming mail server: mail.theward.net
incoming mail server type: POP
outgoing mail server: mail.theward.net
outgoing mail server type: SMTP
outgoing port: 465 (SSL) ****i can't get it to connect and send mail with any other setting

When checking email, a few of the people I host say that they get a message saying "security error: domain mismatch"... apparantly the real mail server is located at viva.surpasshosting.com, and as such it's using surpass's certificates and since it's going though my email domain as some sort of forwarder, we're getting intercept warnings and crap on EVERY send/recieve.

I've already tried in Cpanel to make my own certificates and whatnot and use them to get rid of this error. Nobody else complains about it, so what's the solution or correct settings?

curious - why is that exactly? firewall?

try replacing the mail server names with the ip addy of the server and adjusting the outgoing port ( if firewall allows it ) to port 25
