My domain is tzs.net.
Looking in my mail directory, I see that there is a "tzs.net" directory, and it contains a directory for each mail account I've created. Each of those directories contains the inbox for that mail account. So, it looks like the mailbox for mailbox XXX tzs.net end up in ~/mail/tzs.net/XXX. Sure enough, if I make a subdomain, foo.tzs.net, and a mailbox bar foo.tzs.net, I find that I then have ~/mail/foo.tzs.net/bar, and it contains the inbox. Also in the mail directory itself, rather than in its subdirectories, I see an inbox and other files, which seem to be for the admin account. (E.g., I send a mail to tzs4494 sea.surpasshosting.com, and that's where it ends up). However, there is also a ~/mail/tzs directory, which contains an inbox. I have been unable to figure out what this one is for. At first I thought it might be the catch-all, but that seems to be the admin account mailbox. Could someone tell me what this directory and inbox are for? |

All unassigned, undirected email to your domain goes to the account username mailbox. There is a message to that effect somewhere in the setup of your email account(s).

Yes snide is right. The tsz directory is your default catch-all account. Don't delete it either (I have no clue what the effects of it missing would be. But you can change your catch-all addy to another email or even have the messages bounce...

Let me clarify. My domain is tzs.net. However, my account name is tzsNNNN, where NNNN is a 4 digit number assigned by Surpass.
The catch-all mail by default goes to ~/mail/inbox, NOT ~/mail/tzs/inbox, which is the same place mail to tzsNNNN sea.surpasshosting.com goes. All mail to mailboxes I created goes to ~/mail/tzs.net/mailboxname/inbox. If I create a subdomain, foo.tzs.net, mail to any mailboxes at that domain goes to ~/mail/foo.tzs.net/mailboxname/inbox, or to ~/mail/inbox if it is going to the catchall address. That leaves ~/mail/tzs/inbox as the mystery. Looking at the permissions, both the directory ~/mail/tzs and the file ~/mail/tzs/inbox are owned by user tzsNNNN and group tzsNNNN, and are 750 and 660, respectively, so no one but root and myself can access them. All the other mail stuff is in the mail group. So....~/mail/tzs/inbox remains a mystery. |

ahh, I see now... weird... Looking at my ~/mail/ directory I have some of my email accounts listed there, then all of them listed under the ~/mail/domain.com/ directory. The ones in the main directory look to be some kind of a mirror to the ones in the domain.com directory. Weird indeed. Possibly you created a tsz
yourdomain.com at some point, and deleted it, but it never got removed properly? I dont know.. try renaming it and see if anything weird happens. If not, delete the joker... ![]()
