can't send email?

I use outlook express with IMAP, and have for a long time. I have mail.kfunk.net set for my outgoing server and it used to work. Now for some reason I am getting this error:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject '', Account: 'KFizzle', Server: 'mail.kfunk.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

I can still send using neomail though. And using outlook express, I can send from one kfunk.net mail account to another... just not to non kfunk.net email addresses.

Last time I had a problem like this it turned out that my ISP started blocking port 25 but I got them to unblock it. Right now if I do "telnet mail.kfunk.net 25" I get a message from Yesenia about not authorizing the service for bulk email and such, so I don't think that's the problem this time.

My last successful sent email (using outlook express) was May 30th. I have not changed any settings, and this happens on both of my computers.

I think I might've figured it out. I checked the option for outgoing server requiring authentication (which I've never had to have checked before) and it seems to be working now. Did surpass change something?

Hello,
Funny thats you ISP unlocked the port. Many ISP:s will not do that my for example.
Anyway have you choosen to use "My server require authoriztion"? Because you can send email with neomail is some problem from your ISP. Contact them and check so everything is open and when you useing Secure it runs on port 110 not 25.

Well when port 25 was blocked, if I did that telnet thing, I would only see a blank telnet window with a blinking cursor, and after it was unblocked I would get the message from the server. I'm still getting the message so I don't think it's been re-blocked.

But what I just did was check the box under "Outgoing Mail Server" that says "My server requires authentication" and in the Settings button i have it checked to "use the same settings as my incoming mail server." I was then able to successfully send some messages. I just wonder why I didn't used to need that setting, but now I do. And what's also weird is that without that setting, I could still send email to other kfunk.net email accounts, just not any outside email addresses.

I do NOT have "Log on using secure password authentication" checked, so I believe I'm still using port 25, not 110.

Hmm I just did the same thing and now SMTP works. Port 465 is working which leads me to belive that port 25 is now blocked without warning from my ISP!!!

Well I already went through the port 25 block before and got my ISP to unblock it.

If you go to start, run, and do "telnet mail.domain.com 25" you should get a message from your server, but if port 25 is blocked no message. I think.

surpass has opened up port 26 to bypass the port 25 blocking on most of the servers...
