SMTP Server Error
I use Mozilla Thunderbird to receive messages for my email accounts on my domain, dont-stay.com. I use mail.dont-stay.com as the server. This allows me to download new messages, but when I try to SEND a message, I get the following error:
Quote:
Please help. I have it set up now to use my GMail options to send messages... but then they send from my GMail address and not from my dont-stay.com address and I don't want to do that.. |

Thanks Clair,
I get internet from my landlord, so I don't actually pay for it, nor am I in control of anything that goes on as far as that. I can't just walk into her house and start playing around with her modem or call her internet company hehe. As I said also, I tried 26 as well, and get the same error message with both. I just wondered if there was another workaround, and why am I able to receive mail but not send it? |

Well, the only things I can think of to try to get around it is to attempt using SSL, which uses port 465 instead of 25, or installing SMTP server software on your computer.
Many ISPs block users from using port 25 outside their own SMTP servers to keep them from spamming. If you know the names of the ISP's SMTP server, you may be able to send mail without any type of authentication. Where I lived previously blocked port 25 and I was stuck using their SMTP servers, except when using SSL. Clair |

Thanks so much for your help thus far.
How would I go about setting it up using SSL? Just check the SSL radio button under authentication and changing the port to 465? Because just doing that doesn't work either haha. EDIT: I stand corrected, the mail DOES send, but it gives me a message about certificates every time I send a message and I have to click through three screens before it actually sends. Yeah, I had the click through windows because of mismatched domains, too. I just dealt with it because I didn't want to use my ISP's SMTP servers. I don't know of any other ways around it. Perhaps someone else may have some input.
