It's working! That was really quick. Thanks, my life just got a little easier.

Port 198 also working great at hotel in SBC territory. Thanks for doing this, beats using only webmail when on trips.

Port 198 for Pass57

Could you enable port 198 for SMTP on Server Pass57 as well?

Well, I've tried both port 26 and port 198 as outgoing mail server ports with both secure checked and unchecked and neither works.

These are the error messages returned:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '[USER]', Server: 'mail.domain.tld', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 198, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Port 26 is often blocked by ISPs. It appears from Shared Hosting Notices for SH96 that port 198 has been set up for it. No mention for SH91. Did you try to set up port 198 for an email account on SH96?

You didn't indicated what mail client you are using. In my setup using Outlook 2003 in an IMAP setting it works fine. Both incoming and outgoing servers are set to mail.domain.tld. Login is to the email account on the server, and outgoing server is set to require authentication using the same settings as incoming mail server. Incoming port is set to port 110 (143 for me since I'm using IMAP), and outgoing port set to 198, with neither set to encrypted connection.

Don't know if that helps or not. For SH91 you may need to make a request to get port 198 opened for you.

This is for the domain on SH91 which does have 198 enabled.

I'm trying it in Outlook Express; my daughter, another account user and the one with SBC who blocks port 25) is using Outlook 2003.

Neither of us uses IMAP, so we're set up as POP3 accounts.

I, myself, tried connecting through two different ISPs and neither port 26 nor port 198 works as an outgoing mail server port with either ISP.

I'm fine with the standard ports - it's my daughter who needs the alternative SMTP port. I was just trying the different ports out so I could tell her what to make her settings so she could send mail.
