Thank you - I do appreciate you trying to help by letting me know it worked for you and how you had things configured. Unfortunately configuring my email clients the same way here isn't working for me.

Hey there, my SMTP/POP3 access to my email accounts is currently working only as SSL, which gets on my nerves with certificate warnings each time I send something. I can get mail through post 110, but retrieval through 25/26 with TLS/no-TLS fails. The additional ports seem to be inactive on my server. My server is SH101, and my internet provider is AT&T.

Must I submit a support ticket for this?

You don't get or "retrieve" mail on ports 26/26. Those are SMTP ports for sending mail. You would use port 110 (the default POP3 port) for downloading your email.

First thing to do is check your server announcements and see if the alternative smtp port (198) has been enabled for your server.

If port 198 has been enabled on your server, then try port 198 in place of the default smtp port of 25.

seagreen, are you still having any issue? I just took a look at SH96 and SH91, both still have 198 set up and running fine it appears..

Excuse me, I reversed the ports. 25/26 don't work, simply put, and 198 is refused flat out on my server. There has been no announcement that it has been opened.

As I said previously I'm using SSL for now, although it'd be nice if it worked with std TLS/non-TLS connections.

By the way, why can't I retrieve email through TLS only? cPanel says it supports it, yet my connections are refused with TLS only attempts.

Yes - still a problem. Can't send anything with 198 selected as the SMTP port.

Just tried again a minute ago and got the following error(s) returned:

Quote:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: '[user]', Server: 'mail.[domain.tld]', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 198, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
From OE

From Outlook '03

This is from the SBC website regarding the issue of port 25 being blocked:

Quote:
Contact your mail hosting provider for information about using Port 587 for sending authenticated outgoing email. Since December 1998, Port 587 has been the Internet standard (RFC2476) port for authenticated email submission for mail clients and is supported by most major mail hosting providers.
