Hi everyone,
i am a total newbie when it comes to setting up cpanel & stuff ![]() is there a step by step guide to prevent spam on my email account. (so it will works like my yahoo/gmail account). i got lots and lots of spam recently... (almost 40-50 spams) i have tried to read this guide: The SpamAssassin Newbie Guide The SpamAssassin Newbie Guide also this one Make SPAM ASSASSIN work for you Make SPAM ASSASSIN work for you... but i'm totally lost, my SpamAssassin interface is totally different from what the guide describes above. (there is no such thing as rewrite-subject, rewrite_header subject, subject_tag etc... on my SpamAssassin configuration interface) if someone can guide me / point me to an instruction how to prevent those annoying spams... i would really appreciate it ![]() thanks a lot in advance here have a cookie ![]() |

Yeah, a recent cPanel upgrade that is occuring on the servers is changing the appearance of SpamAssassin. Mine changed today. In the main screen, I only have SpamAssassin enabled, the Spam Box is not. In the SpamAssassin config screen, the only thing I have in the whole thing is using a required score of 5 so that anything that has a score of 5 or more is marked as Spam by it.
That's it as far as SpamAssassin goes. Then, in the E-Mail Filtering portion of Mail, Add a new Filter, and either choose to filter on the SpamAssassin Bar -> contains -> \+\+\+\+\+\+\+\+ to filter on 8 +'s (same as a score of 8 or above), or choose to filter on the SpamAssasin Score -> is above -> 79 where 79 is the same as a score of 7.9. Leave the destination as discard. This will cause all emails with a SpamAssassin score of 8 or higher to be deleted. Any emails with a score between 5.0 and 7.9 with be marked as Spam with the subject prefixed with "** SPAM **" This range will contain those that may or may not really be spam. You can play with the numbers to fine tune it. Just look at all the message headers to see how SpamAssassin is scoring it. Hopefully that's clear as mud LOL.

I should add that I don't mess with Webmail and do everything via POP3 clients.. so I haven't messed with trying to setup or configure "spam" folders.

From what I read, enabling the Spam box will transfer all emails marked as spam (that 5.0 to 7.9) range into a /spam folder that you can check with webmail and such. If you do this, it does not rename the subject line.
So, if you are wanting a "spam" folder, then you probably need to turn this on.

1:// If You choose to activate "SpamBox" all incoming mails that SpamAssassin marks as "Spam" will be transferred to a special "spambox". That "spambox" can be reached via Webmail like "Horde". The contains of the "SpamBox" can be removed by a single click of a "button" in SpamAssassin in Your Cpanel (in "Mail/SpamAssassin"). 2:// If You do not enable SpamBox, all mails tagged as spammails by SpamAssassin will be sent (each one, one-by-one) as a zipped file attached in a special email to the targetted email-address. In that mail, the the first lines of the spammail, and the "score" that Spamassassin has given to the email. (the more "score" a mail is given, the more likely it's a spammail) will be showned. 3:// If You wish to delete all spammails, instead of transfer them to a "Spambox" of Your inbox, You have to login to Your Cpanel, go to "mail" and "SpamAssassin": Click at "To simply have the server DELETE and NOT deliver emails that are tagged as spam by SpamAssassin, click here now.". Don't forget to set :mail: no such address here for the "Default Address" of Your domain and subdomains in Cpanel. That will reduce alot of spam too.
