Email client not connecting to SMTP to send
My email client, Thunderbird, is not sending an email for me. The error says that : Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP sever mail.kdanieli.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMPTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your ntwork admin.
I am traveling. My Outgoing SMTP server is set to my surpass mail domain. port is 25. i also tried 587. I realize that this is probably due to me being on a temporarily different ISP that is perhaps blocking 25? Is there a universal setting I can make in Tbird so that it will work at home and while away? Last edited by kdanieli; May 22nd, 2008 at 9:41 AM. |

I've found that more and more ISPs are blocking port 25. When they do there is nothing that you can do in Thunderbird to get around this. When this happened to me I asked Surpass to open an alternative port on my server. They agreed and opened port 198 on my server. Since then I've never had a problem with an ISP blocking SMTP. You may want to make the same request for you server.

We normally open up port 26 now as an alternative smtp port upon request. Additionally, you could use webmail while you are traveling

yep as marky said, usually port 26 does the job. Also make sure that you have the option for "my server requires authentication" enabled so that you cant authenticate via your mail client to send mail.
