Question Anyone use IMAP with iPod Touch or iPhone?

Currently I have a shared hosting account with surpass, and my domain name has a few emails, a few i use webmail only and one i use with my iPod Touch,

I get this error:
Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "mail.gravitydown.com" failed.

the thing is as of today, (yesterday seemed to be working fine) i cannot send ANY email to outside addresses, they just sit in a temp folder called Outbox.
However if i send ANY emails to email accounts within my domain they work.
(btw i can receive email to the account fine for some reason)

Ive tried resetting it (iPod)
-different wireless network
-different ipodtouch with different email account
to no avail.

I havent changed any of the mail settings or ipod settings for that matter.

I can send/receive email via my web interface for all my accounts and including the one for the iPod.

the settings i have in the iPod touch as this:

Name: Gravity Down
Address: gdgravitydown.com (alias to actual domain to protect privacy)
Descript: gdgravitydown.com

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.gravitydown.com
Username: gdgravitydown.com
Password: *******

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: mail.gravitydown.com:465 (it automatically put the :465)
Username: _blank_
Password: _blank_

and it was working fine for the past 2 months i had it originally set up, and with trying a friends iPhone & iPod touch and a different email address, produces the same scenario; cant send to outside emails only to ones gravitydown.com

so im wondering if its an SMTP error on my end/shared hosting spot.
im not sure if it matters but im on the "bacon.surpasshosting.com" server.

thanks!

Can you use the Surpass outgoing mail server on your desktop? The majority of ISPs block access to SMTP other than their own servers.

This might be it. To me it seems like you might be trying to use the outgoing server without authentication. Try putting in your username and password (same as incoming) there and see if you can send mail

I had this problem when I first started using mail on my PocketPC. I forgot to enter authentication for the outgoing server.

iPhone settings

I managed to get my iPhone working with my surpass account.
I used POP account settings.
I don't have the :465 after mail.<yourdomain>.com for the SMTP server.
I also turned off SSL.
Maybe this is a given...but Server Port is set to 110.
I'm not good with server settings, but by experimenting, found that this worked fine for me.

What I would like, is for my junk mail folder to appear on the iPhone so I can check if mail was misdirected by Spam Assassin, as it does often.
I'm going to try IMAP to see if that works.

Has anyone had luck with this?
