Brightmail by symantec
With more and more of my customers complaining of spam, joe-jobs, etc, I am looking at a solution that will minimize my administrative time but will effectively filter the large amounts of spam that continue to come in.
I had a discussion with one of the software engineers here and he is using Symantec Bightmail and likes it very much. It solves his spam problem and alleviates the amount of time it typically takes to administer other anti-spam applications. Has anyone here used this? If so, what do you think? Also, can it be easily installed on my dedicated server? Thanks for any input you may have on this. |

Have you looked into enabling SpamAssassin for these clients? I was weary of it at first, but once I did I never looked back. I was worried about not getting emails that I needed, but I have had no issues with this.
I am using the automatic configuration, and I've had no issues yet. BigJohn (I think..) posted a really good tutorial for how to get a more custom setup going, but it's included in cPanel. |

Thanks Fury! I have Spam Assasin on the server but I am not that bright in being able to understand how to administer it. I'll go and read Big John's write up to see if I can understand it.
Also: Found out the Brightmail package is a "per email address" license. Way too expensive for me. |

The best solution is a hosted solution. If you have to install software on your desktop, then the spam has already gotten too far

I just signed up for google aps with my domain and have my mail sent there and then downloaded with a pop3 client to outlook.
I do this because gmail has an excellent spam filter and I don't have to even bother with paid services.. I also found Spam Assassin useless and has a lot of steps to configure and it still wasn't catching all of the spam, Not even close |
