And that just freaks me out because why in the world did it place those email addresses in the header? Only ONE is the actual sending email address.

If I use mutt on the server, it doesn't put that header in the messages either.

I guess I should crank up a support ticket.

BTW, what part of Atlanta are you in?

This is the response I got from support. Hopefully they can shed some light on this.

I'm all for some abuse headers - but too much detail can be bad. For example, people could spam all sorts of stuff servername.xxx.

I'm in the north burbs - right at the corner of where woodstock, roswell, and marietta all bump together.

John

EDIT: I dont get the popbeforesmtp thing when I send email to my Gmail account. Just all the other X abuse headers.

Is it really part of the abuse headers? Or is it coincidental that it gets placed with the X-abuse headers?

Oh... so you're one of those OTP people. ;-)

I live right near City Hall East in between Ponce and North.

NO, it's not part of the abuse headers. It's just coincidence that it's the one right before them...

It is quite odd though. It should not be there at all. Are you sure it's not a facility of your email program?

Was it in my reply mail header? That was sent to you using Outlook Express.

so, you live in "poncy highlands" area, eh? I know that area. It's just a lifestyle choice to raise my kids where there are GOOD schools. I'll never live in Fulton because of the way they treat 'sucessful' people. They tax them to death.

Positive. It showed up when using Thunderbird and Outlook Express. Outlook express was setup with only one email account; it couldn't have known about the other email addresses. I also setup Thunderbird in a couple of different profiles in a variety of settings... all with the same results - the very same header in all the messages.

No it wasn't, maybe it's a something with viva.

Believe me. I know all about the taxes! However, I am within walking distance of two-three grocery stores, Home Depot, Staples, Pet Smart, Borders, etc. Not to mention being within walking distance of my favorite pub, the Local. Don't have kids, so that makes it somewhat easier.

I got a response from support...

and support seems correct. It only occurs after I've checked my mail via pop. How long the timeout is between the conclusion of the pop session and when the header is not inserted into an email I am sending, I do not know. However, I think this is a terribly bad practice. Why is it there? Why does it need to be there, advertising all those addresses, just because I just so happened to check my email within the past 5-10 minutes? Is there a valid technical reason to have this turned on all the time? I can possibly see the need when trying to diagnose a problem.

They really shouldnt add that header - point 1.

You can avoid it by using Outlook Express and IMAP.

I'll use Thunderbird and IMAP. I can't stand OE. I especially can't use OE at work.

I would rather use POP when I'm at home for a couple of reasons -- one of them being POPFile, but I may just end up having to use IMAP. I use the IMAP connection to the servers when I'm at work.
