Since this morning I have been getting a lot (so far about 6) of emails titled "mail delivery failed" or "returned mail" for emails that say they were sent from me to email addresses I've never even heard of. The thing is I never even sent these emails, and they're not in my "sent messages" box either. So does this mean someone from another computer is trying to send mail from my account? What do I do to stop this? My domain it's happening on is diamond-road.net, and it has also happened once to my other domain poppymontgomery.net
Also, I have my anti-virus program set to auto protect, and I have all of the definitions up to date, in case that matters, since I can only assume this has to do with viruses since one of the subjects was something like "Re: Wicked Screensaver" ETA: sorry--made a typo on the subject: Getting "Mail Delivery Failed" |

I, on the other hand, have gotten 2,056 of those messages (or Warning: Delivery Delayed) or similar messages over the past three weeks. Moreover, I might've even got more: In response to a "mailbox size critical" message delivered to my regular e-mail address, I logged on Sunday and cleaned everything out. This morning, I checked on a whim, and I think some of those messages are back, unless a bounced delivery was indeed delayed, which would mean I got about four thousand over the last few weeks. I am not using the e-mail address here for anything. I'm having everything forwarded to my main, Yahoo address. But I have to deal with this, and I am not happy. Any help, O nice tech folk? Thanks, Tom Smith www.tomsmithonline.com |

Well you guys aren't alone, I'm getting the same thing. This is what I got from submitting a support ticket yesterday about the same issue:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have an account, www.xl7tv.com hosted with surpass hosting. At around 4:00pm CST, I noticed non-deliverable emails from various forwards and main accounts I have on xl7tv.com (which I did not send) with what looked like virus attacks. I don’t know if your full list of servers have been attacked or just my domain. Just thought I would let you know. Let me know if you need any more information. Gil Reynolds RE: Email Attack If they had some reference to FormMail in them, its cause of this exploit going around from spammers, they have found a way to use it outside normal accounts. Were looking to get this fixed soon Ron The Tech Guru AIM: DimeLiveRon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got close to around 300 emails this morning from spammers. I hope tech support fixes this issue. |

I've been getting a lot of these messages as well including ones to places I have not sent notes to. I believe my email account has a virus! And, if so, it is sending the messages. I sent a note to support to see what can be done short of closing the email account - since it's connected to my business and would hurt.
So cross your fingers, but you might have one too! :disgust:

I don't think I have any sort of virus... at least not one connected to my computer. I have Outlook Express set to not accept messages that may contain viruses, and I did a full scan on my computer and it found no viruses. I've known people who have had people forge their email address to send viruses to other people, so I'm guessing that's what's happening to us.
So far I've gotten about 20 of these messages. |
