Sadly to say, someone has been running an old Moveable Type script for the past 2 days on Fresh. This was the cause of the slowdowns, as the script was taking up 99% of the CPU at times, which was the cause of the crash this morning. The server had problems when it was rebooted. We finally got it back online. We would be happy to move customers to another server for a fresh start, even though we believe this takes care of the issues.

It seems all the problems lately have caused the operating system to just get in worse shape. The last issue was again with a movable type script last week causing the load to go up and down. Ideally you don't want to reboot a server too much unless you really have to, and Fresh has been through a lot as of late.
Right now the hard drive is coming up with errors upon start up, and there are two techs right now working on this. The plan is to transfer these accounts to a dual Xeon machine once we get it running again, which is long overdue but with the downtime lately, we didn't feel it was the right time for any slowness due to account transferring. Might have not been in this situation today if we had just got that over with days ago. ------------- Our techs finally got the server back up, but the data on /home was in bad shape. The data was scattered and not usable/restorable. If you need a specific file, we can probably get it to you after this is all completed. but the data we are now transferring to a new drive is the backup from October 10, which was the Sunday before last. We do not have the full backup from October 17th because it so happened that day, that Fresh was having issues and we had to stop the backup in order to regain the performance while we got the server load down. The accounts are transferring right now. Due to the large size of the accounts, this could take up to 5 hours to complete. Please email me at kfleming[at]surpasshosting.com if you would like to receive a free month's compensation. We apologize greatly for the troubles with this server during October. |

Please read the information below carefully if you are located on this server.
The old IP is 66.194.40.120 The new IP is 72.29.75.155 VERY IMPORTANT STEP: If you do not get to complete this step, your site will not go down, but we would appreciate it if you make the change (as explained here in Extra Notes: http://www.surmunity.com/showthread.php?t=12285). Please update your domain's DNS to the following: ns748.dizinc.com ns749.dizinc.com Any domain you host on this server, whether it is parked or add-on, please change the DNS of that domain to the DNS above. If you registered the domain with us you can make this change at http://www.surpassdomains.com Otherwise, you need to make this change at the site where you registered the domain. If you go to your site and you see a cPanel page that reads "No website configured at this address" that means your local computer is trying to load your site on the old IP. Simply restart your PC, modem or router so it can release it from cache. P.S. If you are using an SSL or have a static IP email e@surpasshosting.com with your domain name so we can assign you a new static IP and make sure your SSL is working correctly. |

If you use any of the following scripts:
FA-PHPHosting PHPClique PHPCalendar PHPCurrently PHPFanBase PHPQuotes Please disable them immediately or use the fix specified below. There are serious exploits going around the net right now and have been for the past few months. All of these scripts are made by http://codegrrl.com/ and have a ridiculously easy hole in them: " @include($logout_page); " This allows an attacker to include whatever code they wish into the php file and run the commands. To avoid getting your site defaced, we recommend you either remove the protection.php file asap, or edit it and remove that line above.
