Red face hmmm

Sooo, what you want to do is pay more for hosting to save the environment...

I've never understood this carbon offsetting thing.
Why pay money to do something more environmentally friendly somewhere else? Why not fix your own problem instead of transferring the guilt somewhere else while keeping your dastardly ways as they are?

This is the problem with a large portion of this "go green" mentality.

Paying a carbon offset fee doesn't change the fact that you could be doing things better yourself.

Call me a purist if you will, but I couldn't do that and feel like I've done my part when my hosting, polluting business, what have you, is still part of the problem.

I could not agree more. Stick with us for cheap hosting, and use the money you saved to "Go Green" on your own... That's just my personal opinion.

Carbon offset credits. Damn, why didn't I think of that first. There's some easy money. I could have started a carbon offset credit company. Send your guilt dollars to me and I'll make sure they get a good home. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to keep selling pet rocks and dog psychology.
j/k
As long as it is voluntary and not mandatory I don't care. I don't care if there is a check box on the pay form to add $5 to feed the hungry black speckled hamster of eastern Mongolia as long as it says "check here if you would like to add $5 to your bill to be donated to...".

But then of course I would have to have my equal opportunity to have my own check box that allows people to send $5 to help the NRA.

Hmm. Maybe this is not a good idea to start adding checkboxes for everyone that has a cause. Maybe a business should just be in the business of doing business and providing a service to their customers that their customers want and doing that well. Thus saving their customers money that they themselves can then donate to whatever cause they feel is just. Yeah, I think I remember reading that somewhere in business class.

Just joking. I couldn't help myself

For us since we have our own data center, going green can go much farther than the "carbon offsets" trend. Yes... I said trend. Unfortunately. I am not sure if their hearts are into all of this.

At any rate... the original blog post does not exist anymore, but my thoughts of it are in this article: Surpass Weighs Solar for New Data Center - Data Center Knowledge

We certainly have a lot to think about. We begin construction of the new data center later this year and will have energy efficiency on the top of our list.

This whole "Go Green" thing is getting far too out of control.

Condescending celebrities pushing the "Green Living" concept? Sure, I can deal with that.

"Go Green" products made by children in sweatshops in Southeast Asia being sold at Wal-Mart for 15 dollars a tote bag? Whatever, I'm down.

But come on.

This is web hosting. If there isn't Paris Hilton sweatshop exploitation to water down my environmental consciousness, I want nothing to do with it.

There is only ONE proven cause of global warming... and we welcome it into our lives every day... the SUN.

Man Made Global warming has not and cannot be proven with the bad erroneous data sets that they've put forward... "gee, I don't like how this data turned out, but if I omit THIS, then it turns out the way I want..."

The ICE CAPS on MARS are melting... did AlGore's SUV cause that too??
See what some independent thinkers think... about global warming... people who DON'T particularly care to get their scientific information from Moby, or the inventor of the internet himself, AlGor.

Global Warming, by Vin Suprynowicz

Global-warming alarmists intimidate dissenting scientists into silence, by Richard Lindzen

Oh, and in case the "libertarians" are TOO free thinking for you, and you want it from a more 'accepted' source...

I don't care about global warming. But I do like clean air and clean water. I also don't like having to depend on countries that hate us for the fuel (life blood) of our economy.

But if Surpass does something "green" it has to make financial sense; not emotional sense. If Surpass does something trendy that just raises our prices then I am going to an oil burning cheaper company. But if Surpass can do something like solar and the cost stays the same or even goes down because solar is free and plentiful in Florida then I could go with that. But it has to make economic sense.
