We have decided to keep pass61 online while we do the restore from backups on the new hardware. Once the restore is completed we will rsync the data from the old pass61 server and swap the ips.
As of right now we have removed the backup drive from pass61 and we are placing it on the new hardware and we will begin restoring accounts shortly. We will keep the forum updated during this time. Thank You. |

As Paul said above, we decideded not to risk the chance of the restore going longer then expected and going into Friday business day. Instead we are doing a different method which will not have any downtime. Loads may be higher then normal for the next 24 hours but at least it will not be completely down. This method is longer to complete however ensures no downtime. We expect this to fully be completed within 24 hours or so.

Just a quick update:
We ran into a couple of small hiccups over last night and this morning with the new server, which will slow down the restore time by a bit. The issues were not critical though and have been dealt with. So far, we have restored roughly 20% of the accounts. Unfortunately it is rather difficult to give ETA's, as the speed of the restore has fluctuated so much already - due to data types/hardware limitations etc., but at best we are looking at roughly another 18-24 hours. This number could change though. Good news is that you do not need to worry about data integrity, as we will run an additional sync with the live data on the current/old pass61 server before we switch the new one on. This way, all of your data will be up to date. We will update you once further progress has been made. Thanks, |

And... another update
I apologize for the lack of updates in the last 24 hours - but here we go:
The restore has slowed down ![]() I think it is pretty fair to say at this point, that the restore will most definitely take another day or possibly two days, as we are only about 40% done with the data on there. There are plenty of things that could be causing slow transfer speeds - starting from having an abundance of tiny files on the old drive to actual hardware bottlenecks etc. We have gone ahead and just recently implemented a couple of tweaks to try to speed up the transfer, but we'll have to wait for a few hours before we can see if the tweaks helped or not. I will go ahead and update everyone within the next 4 or 5 hours. Regards, |

Well Daniel, since it's been 8 hours now.
The restore is still pressing on and everything looks good. I'd say we're at 50% now.Thank you to everyone for your patience.

70% have now been restored.
We will be running rsync to sync up data before we do the switch. At this time you will not see any outage until we announce. Thanks. |

This has taken much longer then expected, the good news is I am glad we did it this way or the downtime projected would have been longer if we did it the other way. By 8am tomorrow which is in about 14 hours we should be all routing to the new server. Right before we make the swap of the ips between the old machine and the new one we will do one round of sync to copy over any data which has updated between when started the copy till when it is finished.

databases are now synced.
/home sync is ongoing currently at 'ri'. The server is under high load due to the sync and should level out shortly. Thanks. |
