From our abuse master- Ray:
We are aware of an issue on pass62. At 4:53 P.M. EST on August 17 2006, A vulnerability in the website of one of the users on pass62 was used to upload a script which took advantage of a vulnerability in the kernel. The attacker then used the script to open up a back door, exploit the kernel, and then perform the defacement. We have patched all the servers in our DC with newer kernels, however this particular box was booted into an older kernel due to issues with the newer kernel and the NIC. Because of this, the attacker was able to gain root level access on the server and perform a mass defacement. We have patched the server with a workaround to the exploit, we have examined the bins and libs and can find no signs of rootkits or malicious files, and we are in the process of restoring all the index.html file that the attacker replaced. We truly apologize for this inconvience, but we are on top of the situation and we are restoring the files as we speak. The restore should be completely done in the next few hours, and the server shoudl be back to normal before the end of the night. Again, we aplogize for the inconvience, and we thank you for your patience on this issue.

Pass62 is currently experiencing a technical issue, we are tracking the source of the problem now. Sites should be loading fine again.
