Or you offer an explanation about what bittorrent is, and a quick guide to how to download using it (provide a link to a bittorrent client, etc.) That way you're contributing with the education of people, instead of just assuming that everyone is stupid and unable to learn.

My mother barely knows what the internet is. If you explain it on your page, they will know what it is. Not everyone knows what Firefox is, but you still push it like mad.

He's kinda like the "unofficial" spokesman for Firefox.

(Like that Wendy's guy. )

I don't get it why you ask ... you have paid for your bandwidth.

If you see from the servers point of view. There's always x connections downloading something.

Einstein, it's because if his site monopolizes a large amount of the server in downloading, it will slow down the rest of the sites and that will cause his site to be suspended. It's part of the good neighbour policy. Plus, if you could easily go over your bandwidth if you don't limit it in any way.

I was just interested in how many simultaneous downloads would be acceptable on a single shared account.

Bandwidth isn’t a problem but if I had 30 users each downloading a 200mb file at 40kbps. That would be a continues stream of bandwidth [at] about 1mbps (1/10th of server resources if the server is on a 10mps connection?) and this would last about 83 minutes.

I don’t know how many accounts are on a shared server but I doubt I’m entitled to 1/10th of server resources.

if you want to see how many ppl are on the server you are on, go here.

Name Spinner, type in your domain.
Look after reverse IP.
I.E. on Sonet there are 211 websites.

Getting a number of how many websites isn't truely representive of the clients on a server. The number also includes multiple domains on the same account, all subdomains, etc. But for a very rough idea, you can do that.
