phpBB - adding photoalbum
I've got phpbb running ok.
I've moved ahead to try to install a popular PhotoAlbum addon to it, but i'm having some difficulties. PhotoAlbum Addon - http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/1060 I've followed the directions quite carefully and at the end it says to temporarily upload an "install.php" file along with a mysql.sql file to the phpbb root, and then to execute via web. I did, and got this: Quote:
What might be going wrong? I also set chmod 777 for the uploads as directed by the installation notes, so that cant be it. Another thing is that the domain name hasnt set in yet, so im actually using the raw IP address for now which perhaps is causing trouble. I don't know if that is it. Is there some limit in terms of kicking up a new sql database from php scripting on my end? I.E. do i need to dig into the main site's SQL admin to get this working properly through cPanel? If i'm supposed to setup a SQP database via cPanel first, where might i get time guidelines on doing that? ![]() ... Question (it's been years since i did this kind of stuff): Install guide has one set chmod 777 to a cache directory but is that really needed, setting the executable permission as well? Wouldnt read/write be sufficient? |

I'd like to make a suggestion. You should try using Coppermine instead. It is a script by itself, but has a bridge for many forum softwares. I believe phpbb is one of those scripts it will connect with. Had I realized yesterday that you were wanting to do albums (which I should have but didn't), I would have suggested it.
http://coppermine.sourceforge.net Plus, that mod is from 2003 and says it's only working up to version 2.0.10, so there may be problems with it working with the current version of phpbb. As for the problem with the database, it's just that the install isn't able to connect to the database for whatever reason. Could be that it has the wrong information in it, or if it's getting it out of the config file for phpbb, it's just not able to open it for some reason. i actually installed coppermine and really like it quite a lot, but didnt realize it could link in with phpbb. That would truly be ideal and I'll explore that. ![]() A couple of questions ![]() In bridging, does it simply use the same users for both? Does it also edit the phpbb system in anyway to link over to appropriate coppermine galleries and such? I envision something like that hack which includes links to the relative person's galleries and such. |

The bridge only causes coppermine to use the same user database as phpbb would use. It doesn't alter phpbb, but there may be ways on the phpbb or coppermine site to make it show links and such. I never really looked into it for Invision Board when I was using it, but there may be a way to do that.

Yes, looks like hacks of phpbb itself are in order...
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic...ght=coppermine i'm going to start there, and if it DOESNT work well as a starting point i'll repost here for those who might later search this thread and try the same. |
