Before the rumours spread...
Well, before the rumour spreads that I left Surpass, I want to state that, yes, I did move one site and a few subdomains out of Surpass. I do have reasoning...
The number one reason was the lack of PHP5 support. I realize there's webdev plans with that, but I honestly couldn't justify the cost to pay extra for something that I now consider a necessity for an enthusiastic coder. I'm not arguing with Surpass's decision, I understand they're waiting upon more support for it, but quite frankly I disagree to a certain degree that it can't be run along-side PHP4 (which is a bit behind -- 4.4.2 is out). I have a strong belief that PHP5 is production ready to use. So yes, I still have one site with Surpass along with some subdomains I've left behind. I'm planning on starting another site here soon to replace it. Something that's potentially not dynamic. I'm in no ways intending on leaving Surpass or Surmunity at this time. ![]() Just thought I'd save the question from coming up later... ![]() |

I confess. I too have moved a site to another host (which I absolutely hate and they suck), but I needed lots of bandwidth and Surpass can't touch 1500gb/mo for $20/mo... Sorry guys.

Just to note, while looking in the server's WHM, 4.4.2 isn't available in the apache build section yet. It didn't seem to come with this past CPanel update either.

I'm still here, but a server move will be in my future if pass27 keeps failing like it has been lately. I don't know if it's me or someone else, but things have been nuts lately.
Could be better. Much better.

Note: I cleaned up the thread of the "crap". I was more meaning to have a meaningful discussion in where Surpass is in some places missing out. In my case PHP5, other people it's support, other people it's stability and other people it's general services.
I think we all can agree that Surpass is definitely a great host, but they're not perfect. Why not use this ask a stage where they can improve a little, or at least get feedback from regular customers. |

I have no problems. Any that appear are usually of my own devices unfortunetly. Server problems and such are always because of my own general crap when I decide I know more than I actually do, and thus end up making the support team once again deal with my server. So, I really can't say anything about that.
As for php5, I understand that it can run along side with php4 (since it does in web dev), but what happens later? Wouldn't users have to redo all of their scripts to work with php5 when it gets introduced into the servers full force? By that I mean the extensions, since it has to be a .php5 extension. |

the .php versus .php5 battle can be overcome with one line in the .htaccess file. If I understand it correctly, many scripts (including ones in Fantastico) will break under PHP5 and until they are updated for PHP5 compatibility, it will not be globally implemented.
