installing a wiki

Hey there!

I have Shared Hosting with Surpass, and I wan wanting to install a wiki on my domain for my own personal use.

The posts I've found here in Surmunity suggest that this is a doable thing, but I can't find any instructions on doing it. And unfortunately I don't know much about PHP or wikis themselves. I have some instructions but they are for installing a wiki on a local web server, and I am not sure I'll have all hte permissions and whatnot I'll need.

And for what it's worth, I do have shell access enabled on my account. So that might be helpful.

So -- how can I install my own personal wiki on my Surpass-hosted site?

thanks!

Fantastico has two wikis, TikiWiki and PhpWiki. Through Fantastico, this should be a one-click install.

I've never used a wiki, so I can't say whether I'd recommend either of these or not, but they should be simple to install.

sweet, thanks. I'll see if I can figure that out. Do you know where I might be able to find more information about these (other than just googling it)?

I posted to the different forum because it kinda made sense to me to also post under the PHP forum -- since that seems to be what Wiki uses.

I think I'd prefer to use MediaWiki -- is that possible?

Yes. Mediawiki works, and is very simple to set up.

Hope I'm not committing a horrible faux pas by dredging up such an old thread. But it's kind of the same topic I need help with. Here's my issue:

I used fantastico to install phpwiki. When I tried accessing the admin pages (admin.php), I type in the correct password, but it will not log me in. I did not get the password wrong. But in case I did, I copy&pasted from the fantastico "installation complete" page. Still no go. So I went to the file manager and opened admin.php where I checked the password. Yup, it's the one I'm entering. For humor's sake, I c&p from there, and it still won't work.

So, I feel I've firmly established that the issue is not mistyping the password. What are your suggestions? My next thought is to check the mysql database, but why would that affected it? The pw is hard coded in admin.php, not stored in the db.

Help!

Edit: btw, the wiki is located agentsofpositivechange.com/wiki

If its not the password...did you get the username right? Of course this only applies if you need a username.
