Hmm, I would say set them too 777, but PHPsuexecs is enabled on your sever so 755 should work just the same only more secure. Execute needs to be checked also because with out it, the function won't load and you'll get an error message. To have it simply on read and write only lets you fix it from the "backend" in a sense.
OK. Upload your .htaccess file back onto your server and do not delete anything else. Change the permissions back to 755 and erase any php_value lines within the .htaccess and see if that help in anyway. Also what is the link to this gallery? |

Yea, I just realized. =)
Since its a 500 error, that usually means that permissions are not set right or something is wrong with the .htaccess file. The usual at least and since we are having related issues, then I'm sure that is what is causing it. Please do what I said above and see if it helps any. =) |

Alright. One more suggestion, since I'm not sure what the problem could be. Create a test folder/directory and re-download Gallery from Fantastico, if it works, well then I would use that and just import your files back again? =(
Sorry, I wasn't much help. |

OK so you think I'd be better off with a clean new installation? As long as I'd be able to get my database with all images/users/ratings etc imported there then I wouldn't mind doing it...Although, I've got to the point where I am scared of doing anything without step by step instructions =/
If a new test gallery was successful, I assume it would be possible to delete the old installation and reinstall in the same place? I wouldn't want for the URL to change. |

Yes that would be possible, but be sure to back up EVERYTHING! Don't overwrite your images/users/ratings. =) I would back through FTP. I'm not sure if you manually installed it or did it through fantastico, but yet, do it through FTP. Also I would do a backup of that database too. Delete it and then re-upload it. ( Although, Fantastico cleans that slate, I'm sure you could get to the config file and change the database options around. =)

So you mean you would delete the database too after downloading a backup? oh dear... I better do a lot of searching for instructions before I have a go at this =/
I initially installed via Fantastico yeah but FTP wouldn't be a problem. My main concern would be getting the new installation to recognise all my old data. |

Yea, when you install through Fantastico, is does everything automatically for you, so when you go to uninstall it through Fantastico it'll delete everything, including the databases for you.
If anything, have you gone to the gallery support forum? (if they have one of course) and checked to see if they could possibly help? |
