URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration

I just bought a script for image generation and when I try the gen it says

Code:
imagecreatefromgif() [function.imagecreatefromgif]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration
I searched around the forums and found the php.ini file and also about curl.Php.ini didn't work,so i want to try curl before asking the
help desk.

Now my php knowledge is very minimal,so I was wondering if some one want to help with modifing it with curl for me.

Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping you, or someone else knows the answer to this, because I have an eTicket install that is in need of this modification as well.

Make sure safe mode is off, and that allow_url_fopen is set to true.
