Can safe mode be disabled in PHP?

I have a client who wants to use the Concrete5 CMS package and I am told by its install process that PHP safe mode must be disabled? Can this be done with a localized php ini file?

As far as I know Surpass does not have "safe_mode" enabled at any server.

We have safe_mode enabled on all our shared servers. A local php.ini file would work but it needs to be in every directory. Typically on the install putting it in the install directory is crucial. If you have further issues I would recommend putting in a ticket.

Thanks psfrog and Giles. I eventually figured it out and went the local php.ini file route. Once I got the package installed I went and re-enabled safe mode and all is well.

I have installed Concrete5 on my resellers as needed with no problems and no change to Surpass defaults - if that information is of any help.

Neil, I'm on a reseller account and Concrete5 gave me the error as I stated in my first post. When I ran phpinfo it came back as safe mode being on. I used a local phpini file to disable it and the install went just fine and then I went back and enabled safe mode and so far no other problems.

Thanks for your input.

Glad to hear everything went well with the install. If you do run into any issues of any kind please feel free to let us know.
