Webserver

I want to set up a webserver so I can edit pages on my own computer, without uploading to my account. (Acts as a previewer)

Req:
PHP
Hopefully mySQL
Apache

I am running Windows XP.

What do I need (moreover where do i get this)?

You could download each component seperately and install them, or you could download a bundle package such as Foxserv.

Individual Sites

http://www.php.net/
http://www.mysql.com/

Packages

View this article (I swear by it bought the book even LOL) http://www.sitepoint.com/article/php...1-installation anyway, what I want you to look at is the installation of all that you mentioned above. It's all covered there along with where to go to download what you need. Follow step by step and you will have your server set up on your computer. There is lots there you probably aren't interested in, but what you are looking for is covered in the first few pages.

True.

That book looks great. Is it the best php/mySQL books youve seen?

I love it. I bought that and PHP and MySQL for Dummies. The two together are helping a lot. The dummies book comes with a cd with all of the programs on it ready to install on your computer. Real handy.
